IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some individual think that the major climate issue of our era is extinction living species.Other schools of thought find out some significant environmental issues. specie exinction is commen after the involvment of technology in global village. In this essay, I will discuss both point of views regarding environmental changes.
A group of individuals thought that loss of flora and fauna continuesly lead to specie extinction which we should saved and reproduce in national parks under the governance of officials .Because these extiction lead to environmaental hazards. For example Tasmanian Cheetah are going to extint because only few are remain in national park.Dinasaours awere already extint specie.
Others demonstrate that there are some other extreme problems related to environment which we need to tackle like global warming, green house gases and ozone hole, we should manage them properly by limiting the use of technology. For example CFCs from refigerator and air conditioners damage ozone layer by converting Ozone into oxygen gas and oxygen molecule, due to this continues action;a hole formed in this layer in Antarctica.Which leads to melting of glaciers and ice caps which further become cause of flood in hilly areas.
In my opinion, both are right in there own perspective because by deforestation plant and animal species removed and food chain will be disturbed and in turn into global damage also because the plants which were responsible for cleaning harmful gases are now removed.
In conclusion, climate change is more significant than specie extinction. Wheather changes directly harm people like flood due to melting of snowcaps and glaciers caused by increase in temperature.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that species extinction is the main environmental problem versus other major concerns like global warming—and provides a personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on species extinction mentions Tasmanian tigers and dinosaurs, but the explanation remains brief and relies on sweeping statements. The supporting examples are partially relevant but underdeveloped, and the conclusion slightly contradicts the body paragraphs by shifting the stance on which issue is more significant. Consequently, the performance aligns best with Band 5.0, where the task is addressed, but the ideas lack sufficient extension and depth throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text has a discernible structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which demonstrates basic organisation. However, progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions, mechanical cohesive devices (such as 'For example' and 'In conclusion'), and an absence of logical flow between sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but the body paragraphs are disjointed. For example, the second paragraph abruptly moves from national parks to Tasmanian cheetahs and dinosaurs without a smooth connecting thread. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where 'climate change' is introduced rather than reiterating the specific points discussed earlier. These cohesive flaws and mechanical links place the response firmly at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic ideas about the environment, climate change, and extinction. However, the range is limited and repetition is common, as seen with terms like 'environmental', 'species', and 'extinction'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'extinction living species' instead of 'extinction of living species', 'specie exinction is commen', and 'Tasmanian Cheetah are going to extint'. Furthermore, spelling errors ('continuesly', 'refigerator', 'Wheather') and non-standard collocations restrict the vocabulary to a Band 5.0 level, where errors cause some difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. While the student attempts a few complex sentences, these are frequently faulty and marred by basic structural errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Some individual think', 'Dinasaours awere'), missing articles ('a hole formed in this layer'), and awkward phrasing like 'both are right in there own perspective because by deforestation plant and animal species removed'. Punctuation is also erratic, with double spaces and misplaced commas. Because errors are frequent throughout the text and frequently strain meaning, the grammatical accuracy and range correspond to a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 as per standard half-band reporting guidelines where a mix of strengths and weaknesses pulls the score.
