Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The student attempts to address the prompt by discussing both views regarding whether the loss of specific species is the main environmental problem. However, the response is severely underdeveloped and abruptly cuts off after only 146 words, which is well below the 250-word minimum requirement. Consequently, the task cannot be fully answered or developed. The student touches upon the importance of plants and animals and hints at alternative environmental issues, but the lack of a proper conclusion and substantial length penalty restricts the score. This performance aligns best with Band 4.0 descriptors, where the response to the task is minimal and lacks the necessary extension and support of ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text is divided into short paragraphs, attempting an introduction and body paragraphs. However, due to the extreme brevity and the unfinished nature of the text, logical progression is disrupted, particularly at the end where the sentence cuts off mid-thought. Cohesive devices are basic and repetitive, such as 'Additionally' and 'On the other hand'. While referencing is generally understandable, the overall arrangement feels fractured and incomplete. This corresponds to Band 5.0, as there is some basic organization, but no clear overall progression or successful structural management of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student displays a limited range of vocabulary, with frequent spelling errors throughout the essay. Examples include 'Envionmental' (instead of environmental), 'asthema' (asthma), and 'ruins' (ruin). Words are often repeated, such as 'clean air', 'enviornment', and 'problems'. While the vocabulary used is minimally adequate to convey basic ideas, the constant spelling mistakes and lack of less common lexical items prevent the score from reaching higher bands. This performance fits the Band 5.0 descriptor, where the vocabulary is limited and noticeable errors cause some difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student uses a mix of simple and attempting complex sentences, but grammatical accuracy is weak. There are noticeable errors in word form and sentence structure, such as 'is loss of particular species' (missing article), 'are source of clean air', and 'can be feel safe'. The sentence 'However, it could be worsen when deforestation occurs by some organisations when they build buildings and factories the enviornment can automatically ruins' demonstrates a run-on structure with multiple errors. This fits Band 5.0, where attempts at complex sentences are often faulty and frequent errors occur.
