IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Others say that there are more important environmental problems. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Whether loss of partcular species or other environmental problems are main issue of today is a widely debated topic nowaday. Many people think loss of particular species create an imbalnce in ecosystem and leads to loss other anaimal and plants so this issue need to be adressed with seriousness, While others believe that there are far more importnat issues of environment which need urgant attention. I think, both these isses are interrelated. Environmental pollution, global warming and clomate change cause loss of species which further adversely effcet biodiversity and echosystem.

Many plant and animal species including polar bear, tigers, some marine animals and plants are endangered today. Their loss threaten the survival of other animals and plants which are their predators. This result in widespead loss of other species and badly effect the echosystem. The government should take action to save these animal and plants which are at the verge of extinction.

In the contarary, others think the environmental issues are more important nowadays. The cabon emissions from the consumption of fossil fuels in vehicles and industries are creating greenhouse effect. This results in global warming and climate change. The ice melting in glaciers may result in rise of sea levels, floods and droughts in the world. The use of plastic material and their improper disposal aggraviate the environmental issues. All these problems inturn result in loss of other living things.

In conclusion, I believe that both these problems are interdependent environmetal problems result in loss of specific species which cause further damage to environment by advesely effecting biodiversity and creating a vicious cycle. Both these issues need to be adressed at international and national levels. Awareness programmes should be promoted so that everyone participate to preserve environment for future generations.
