Student answer (Band 6.0)

Enviromental degradation have become a global menace. Some individuals argue that the outstanding environmental issue in todays society is extinction of particular flora and fauna , while others think that there other challenges to nature. This essay will discuss both sides . In my opinion there are multiple of issues impacting our nature.

To begin with , individuals who opines that the primary thread to our universe is the endanger of specific plants and animals, is contributed solely by lustrous human activities. Nowadays rare animals and plants products are of sedimental value to well being and culture of our epoch. Hunters target these species much, for instance oak plants in kenya are about to be extinct as they are industrially hard woods used in making expensive furniture, despite goverment banning use of these oak products in industries ,citizens still exploit. Furthermore , global demand of some animal products has risen recently especially in ornamental industries, this has lead to hunting of animals like elephants for their horns. It is estimated that about half a million white elephants still exhist around the globe ,and this figure is projected to decline due to high demand of horns .

However, I believe that there are other factors that contribute to environmental degradation . One of the factors is surge in human population.,worldwide forests have been occupied by landless people , this has resulted to logging of wood to create room for structures . This act not only lead to global warming but also diminish face of the nature. In addition , multinational companies have excessively exploited natural resources.Mining companies have left uncovered quarries endangiring humans and exhaution of soil nutrients responsible for plants

In conclusion , target of paricular species is not only reason that impacts universe, there are challenges ranging from human careless acts to multinational industries. In order to have have a condusive environment everybody needs to be responsible.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on environmental issues—the loss of specific species versus other problems like population growth and industrial exploitation—and presents a clear personal opinion. The main ideas are generally relevant, but some points are under-developed or briefly stated. For instance, the example of oak plants in Kenya is mentioned, but the explanation of industrial demand lacks full extension. The position is maintained throughout the essay, though the reasoning relies somewhat on broad generalisations rather than deep elaboration. Overall, the task is adequately addressed, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two differing views from the writer's perspective. However, cohesion is at times faulty or mechanical. Phrases like 'To begin with' and 'In conclusion' are used, but internal cohesion within paragraphs suffers from punctuation errors, missing articles, and awkward referencing, such as 'This act not only lead to global warming but also diminish face of the nature.' Progression is sometimes disrupted by abrupt transitions between sentences, placing this criterion solidly in the Band 6 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'degradation', 'extinction', 'flora and fauna', and 'multinational companies'. However, there are frequent word-choice errors, incorrect collocations, and spelling mistakes that affect precision, such as 'Enviromental' instead of environmental, 'opines' used ungrammatically, 'thread' instead of threat, 'exhist', and 'condusive'. While these errors do not severely impede communication because the overall meaning remains clear, they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.5, rounded to Band 6 due to the reasonable range attempted.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition with structures like 'Some individuals argue that... while others think that...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Enviromental degradation have', 'individuals... is contributed'), missing articles (e.g., 'to landless people'), tense inconsistencies, and preposition errors (e.g., 'resulted to'). Punctuation is also problematic, with spacing errors around commas and periods. These errors occur frequently across the text and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5 descriptor.
