Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is argued by some people that the environmental problems of our time are result of reduction in certain number of plant species and animals. While others are saying that there are more crutial environmental problems. In this essay ,we will discuss both arguments and will present our own opinion regarding this matter.

To begin with, it is true that the loss of a particular species of plants and animals are responsible for today's environmental changes. Deforestation is one the leading causes of the changing climate. Timber industry is cutting valueable trees for their needs and its continous hasvesting has disturbed the natural balance. Some animals and birds are the sources of distributing seeds of different plants, this process is called pollination. Decrease in number of these species has also give rise to major environmental issues and the ecosystem is disturbed.

Furthermore other environmental problems are also present at the same time. Global warming is one of the alarming environmental issue. The temperature of the earth is increasing day by day, as a result glaciers are melting down rapidly. There are threats of urban flooding and sudden rise in global temperature can cause extreme weather phenomena like alnino and cloud bursts. Ozone layers is also depleting creating a harsh conditions for crops as well as human. There is a record increase in environmantal pollution as well.

To conclude, decline in useful plants and animals species is a genuine enviromental problem today, but the other problems outweight this one, global warming and changing weather patterns are alarming. Practical steps should be taken to keep our environment balance and reduce the possible threats. Unwanted plants should be replaced with useful plants and trees, one such example is the plant responsible for pollern allergy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on whether the loss of specific species is the main environmental problem, and it provides a clear opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are relevant, noting deforestation, pollination, and global warming. However, the development is somewhat limited and generalized. For example, the mention of 'alnino' and 'cloud bursts' is brief and lacks deeper exploration. The position is maintained throughout, but the arguments could have been extended with more precise explanations to fully reach the higher bands. Overall, the response meets the core requirements of Task Achievement adequately, corresponding to a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is utilized, though the body paragraphs group multiple distinct ideas together, such as transitioning abruptly from deforestation to pollination, and then to other issues in the subsequent paragraph. Cohesive devices are attempted using phrases like 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude', but referencing and linking are occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, as seen in phrases like 'While others are saying... In this essay ,we will discuss...'. Progression is generally discernible, but the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs would benefit from smoother transitions.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'biodiversity', 'ecosystem', 'deforestation', and 'global warming'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'result of reduction' (missing article), 'crutial' (crucial), 'valueable' (valuable), 'continous hasvesting' (continuous harvesting), 'pollern' (pollen), and 'enviromental' (environmental). Despite these slips, communication is not impeded, and the vocabulary attempts are sufficient to cover the topic effectively, placing this submission firmly at a Band 6.0 for lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. Examples include conditional and relative clauses, such as 'Some animals and birds are the sources of distributing seeds of different plants, this process is called pollination.' However, punctuation and grammatical errors occur frequently, including comma splices, missing articles ('Ozone layers is also depleting'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('the loss of a particular species... are responsible'). While these errors do not severely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.
