Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some individuals argue that the main environmental problems of our time period is the loss of many species of plants and animals. Other argue that there are many other essential natural world problems. Although both views have their merits, I believe that there are many more important environmental problems such as air Pollution and noise pollution and so many.

On the one hand some public says that many species of plants and animals are died because of the environment problems. This is because some species of animals are the cause of hunting and many species of the plants are dying due to the cause of dangerous gases in the air. For example know a day's many animal and plants are endangerd species and very small amount of them are exist in this world. Thus are the main reason for their falling down.

On the other hand, some population asking that many other problems are the reason for this loss of species and plants. This is mainly because people are cutting plants and trees for their use and generate some money from it and the cause of animal reducing is the forest departments or the people who protect these animals cannot bread them. For instance, when the forest department organization cannot protect the plants from the woodcutters and the animals are not breeding their populations are automatically dropped. Thus the family of some plants and animals is go down due to these things.

In conclusion, both the views are acceptable on their place hunting of animal community and cutting of plants can reduce their populations, and also cutting the wood and doing no breading reduce population. So I suggest that forest department or their related organization should take action and control them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address all parts of the task by discussing both the loss of plant and animal species and other environmental problems, while also providing an opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and sometimes unclear. For instance, the statement 'such as air Pollution and noise pollution and so many' lacks extension and clarity. In the body paragraphs, the explanations regarding why species are dying—such as 'some species of animals are the cause of hunting'—are confused and lack adequate support. While the writer presents a clear stance in the introduction and conclusion, the ideas are under-developed and tend to be repetitive, which places the response securely at Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into four paragraphs, showing a basic attempt at structural organisation. However, progression is frequently impeded by confusing transitions and weak logical links. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as 'Thus are the main reason' and 'some population asking that'. Referencing is frequently unclear, as seen in phrases like 'both the views are acceptable on their place'. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within paragraphs lacks flow and logical sequencing, resulting in a disjointed reading experience. This performance aligns with the Band 5.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently impeded by word-choice and collocation errors. Examples of awkward phrasing include 'environment problems', 'know a day's', 'endangerd species', 'animal reducing', and 'doing no breading'. The writer attempts less common vocabulary such as 'endangered species' and 'organization', but noticeable errors cause difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning in several places. The lexical range is minimally adequate for the task, reflecting a standard consistent with Band 4.5, which rounds to Band 5.0 based on general performance, though Band 4.5 is not an option here, Band 5.0 is appropriate for the limited range and frequent errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The writer uses a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense issues ('are died', 'is go down'), subject-verb agreement errors ('the main environmental problems... is'), and awkward phrasing ('some public says', 'when the forest department organization cannot protect... the animals are not breeding their populations'). Punctuation is also weak, with run-on ideas and missing articles. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 4.0 descriptors closely, though the basic communication of ideas is maintained.
