Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's evolving times, Environmental issues have become a matter of considerable public interest, prompting widespread debate regarding their impact on individuals and society. Some people firmly believe that, because of ecosystem issues, many plants and animals have been endangered. Some people firmly believe that there are more challeges rather than this. This essay will address both views and my opinion with suitable examples.

Focusing on the first point, due to environmental challenges, many kinds of plants and animals have been lost. These species are now considered rare. The main reason is climate change, which has had many adverse impacts on the fauna and flora. For instance, the White tiger has become endangered in Pakistan due to the adverse heat effects in the region. Similarly, jasmine, which is considered a herb in Germany, has also been lost. Consequently, these animals and plants play a very significant role in the environment, such as preserving the area from predators. Additionally, in making medicinal products there herbs were also pivotal.

On the other hand, there are many other environmental challenges, such as pollution has adverse effects on the ecosystem. Due to this, many people are suffering from health issues. For instance, in Kenya, due to water pollution, many children lost their lives. Moreover,r they suffer from digestive issues and cancer. Similarly, due to air pollution, many humans get respiratory problems. The main cause of these problems is the increased number of industries and transport. As a result, not only humans suffer from these issues, but animals and plants equally affected.

In conclusion, although due to environmental changes many species of funa and flora are no more, but todays's ecsysyem problem more important to them because we can change the past, but to secure today's environment we can tale beneficial steps which will not only save the variety of plants and animals but also provide a better environment for our next generations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that the loss of specific species is the main environmental problem, and that other issues are more critical—while providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are relevant, such as mentioning climate change and pollution, and are supported with examples like the White tiger in Pakistan and water pollution in Kenya. However, some arguments remain slightly under-developed, and the examples contain minor factual inaccuracies (e.g., White tigers are native to India rather than Pakistan, and jasmine is a flowering shrub/vine rather than a herb). The conclusion is also somewhat repetitive and grammatically strained, which prevents the response from reaching Band 7. Nevertheless, the requirements of the task are appropriately fulfilled.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure, moving logically from introduction to body paragraphs discussing each viewpoint, and concluding with an opinion. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader, such as 'Focusing on the first point,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion.' However, referencing and transitional flow are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in the repetitive opening phrases ('Some people firmly believe') and the abrupt transition in the final paragraph. Paragraphing is generally appropriate, but the cohesion within sentences occasionally breaks down due to awkward phrasing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'considerable public interest,' 'fauna and flora,' and 'respiratory problems.' However, there are notable word-choice and spelling errors that detract from precision, including 'challeges,' 'funna,' 'ecsysyem,' and 'tale beneficial steps.' Collocations are sometimes unnatural, such as 'adverse heat effects' and 'in making medicinal products there herbs were also pivotal.' Despite these limitations, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without severely impeding communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in punctuation, article usage, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'pollution has adverse effects,' 'more challeges rather than this,' 'animals and plants equally affected,' and 'todays's ecsysyem problem more important to them.' The final paragraph contains significant run-on structures and confusing punctuation ('although due to environmental changes many species... are no more, but todays's ecsysyem problem more important to them because...'). These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the grammar score from reaching a higher band.
