Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people believe that main environment problem is loss of some important species of plants and animals. Other think that there are more improtant problem of environment than plants and animals.

However, No doubt that the some specie of animals and plants become rare and the main cause is environment. Governments of different countries is cutting forest thats why animals do not have any place for shulter and they do not have their familiar environment. Because of artificial rain some crops and plants are also effected. For instance, Polar bear become very rare in this generation because of global warming and heat they do not get cold environment.

Furthermore, There are soo many other problem than loss of particular species. The main problem is pollution there are too much pollution in populated cities because to many use of petrol and deisel engine in car, buses, trains. We need to use electric vehicles like electric buses and electric cars. Some government start working on this initiative to promote electric transport to protect environment. One other big source of pollution is factories and powerplants to produce electricity which have a bad impact on environment.

In my perception, I believe that environment have huge amount of threat because of pollution and deforestation. Moreover, plants and animal are also in danger and cause loss of some species of animals for example white tigers.

In conclusion, I personally believe that it is our duty to protest environment. To protect environment plants and trees are very important. We need to grow some new trees and plants in our surronding.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—that the loss of specific species is the main environmental problem, and that other issues are more significant—while also providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. For example, the discussion on animal loss relies heavily on general statements like 'species of animals and plants become rare' and briefly mentions the polar bear, while the section on pollution outlines petrol and diesel engines and factories. The position is clear throughout, but the arguments lack depth and extension, preventing the response from reaching higher bands. Overall, the task is adequately addressed at a Band 5.5 level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay has a recognizable overall structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, satisfying basic organizational needs. Paragraphing is attempted, though some paragraphs mix distinct thoughts. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Furthermore', and 'Moreover' are used to connect ideas, but their application is at times mechanical or repetitive (e.g., beginning multiple sentences with 'Furthermore' or 'Moreover'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'the some specie of animals and plants become rare and the main cause is environment'. Progression is discernible, but logical transitions between sentences can be abrupt, placing this text firmly at a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, which restricts the range of expression. Words such as 'environment', 'problem', and 'pollution' are used frequently without varied synonyms. There are numerous word choice and spelling errors, including 'imrotant' instead of 'important', 'specie' instead of 'species', 'shulter' instead of 'shelter', 'effected' instead of 'affected', and 'surronding' instead of 'surroundings'. While the meaning is generally communicated despite these errors, the lexical control is basic and occasionally causes strain for the reader, aligning with Band 5.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Governments of different countries is cutting', 'there are too much pollution'), missing articles (e.g., 'loss of some important species'), and preposition usage. Punctuation errors are also apparent, such as comma splices and incorrect capitalization after commas. Complex structures are often faulty rather than fully controlled. Because errors are frequent and occasionally impede smooth reading, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
