Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that some people believe that disapperance of particular species of plants and animals can cause environmental problem of our time. While others believe that there are more enviornmental problems. I agree that loss of particular species of plants and animals is also a undeniable problem but there are many other major problems that causes environment, In the upcoming paragraphs both of the views will be discussed with a logical conclusion.

To commence with, the extinction of particular species is undoubtlly a major problem, every species plays an important role in nature. For example- if any particular species will be extinct it will cause problem, its prey may increase dramtically and disturb the entire food chain. Moreover, once the species get enxtinct, it can't be restored naturally. The loss of biodiversity can therefore have long term consequences for future generations.

However, there are several other environment problem that has broadly impact on nature. For example- climate change is rising many problems like melting glacier, an increasing in a unpredictable weathers, which can cause flood or heavyrainfall. Futhermore, air and water pollution is also a major problem because it had a direct impact on humanlisation and natural environment. To clarify it, industrial emissions waste plastic and contaminated water can damage the ecosystem and cause the respiratory systems and other health issues.

In conslusion, disapperance of species of plants and animals can cause to problems like disturbance in food chain and impossible nature restoration of it and other enironmental problems like climate change, air and water pollution had a major impact on nature compared to species extinction.from my perspective, loss of particuylar species should not be ignored but now we have to focus on the other enironmental problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on environmental problems and clearly stating a personal opinion. The introduction outlines the two sides and presents a clear stance. In the body paragraphs, the extinction of species is discussed with reasons such as food chain disruption, while alternative problems like climate change and pollution are also examined. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed and generalisations appear, particularly in the conclusion where the arguments are summarised somewhat repetitively. Despite these limitations, the central prompt is adequately answered and a consistent position is maintained throughout, fitting the criteria for Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response is organised into a logical structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, fulfilling basic paragraphing requirements. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'However', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the essay. However, referencing and transitions are at times mechanical or faulty, as seen in phrases like 'While others believe that there are more enviornmental problems' standing as a fragment, and some awkward connectors like 'Futhermore'. Paragraph transitions generally work to maintain a coherent overall arrangement, but the flexibility and precision of cohesion remain at a moderate level, supporting a Band 6 score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'biodiversity', 'industrial emissions', 'ecosystem', and 'extinction'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'disapperance', 'enviornmental', 'undoubtlly', 'dramtically', 'enxtinct', and 'humanlisation'. These lexical errors and awkward collocations like 'rising many problems' or 'impossible nature restoration' occasionally detract from the reading experience, though meaning is still generally clear, aligning closely with Band 5.5 descriptors, rounded to 5.5 or 6.0 based on general adequacy. We award Band 5.5 for frequent spelling issues.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'that some people believe that disapperance... can cause environmental problem', 'there are several other environment problem that has broadly impact', and 'an increasing in a unpredictable weathers'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with run-on sentences in the conclusion like 'disapperance of species... and other enironmental problems... had a major impact... from my perspective...'. These errors require some effort from the reader to untangle, placing the grammar performance firmly within the Band 5 category.
