Student answer (Band 5.5)

some people argue that the major environmental problem of our time is particular species animal and plants are getting closer to Extinction. while other says that there are more crucial environmental problems. i believe both of arguments are valid, because extinction of certain species do count as important environmental issue, but there are more important issues related to environmental problems do exists.

Firstly people who believe that the loss of particular species of animals and plants are main environmental problem because they might be animal lover and love to have them as their pet.For example: Some of individuals have hobby of collecting rare speices of plants as well as rare animals such as panda who is so rare and you usually dont get to adopt him as your pet, because of its limited popullation around the world. similarly some plants are getting wiped out due air pollution as well as deforestation.

On the other hand, few individuals say that their are more important environmental problems than the loss of particular species of plants and animals. They are pointing out the problems that humans made through advancement over the decades such as air pollution and noise pollution, because this causes more problems such as asthama and other medical issues. another major problem is green house emissions that is affecting the ozon layer this result with global warming which is increasing day by day,

In conclusion, both of the arguments are geniune and talks about the same issue. Both of them are major issues and need to be resolved before its too late, but i strongly believe that air pollution and noise pollution are much bigger problem than losing species of animal and if we wont stop it from happening we might get to experience more worse problems than that.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on environmental problems and providing a personal opinion, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the first body paragraph attempts to explain why the loss of species is viewed as a major problem, but the reasoning relies on simplistic ideas such as wanting rare animals as pets, exemplified by 'some of individuals have hobby of collecting rare speices of plants as well as rare animals such as panda'. Similarly, the counterargument touching on air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions is introduced without sufficient extension or deep analysis, preventing the response from achieving a higher level of task fulfillment.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, fulfilling basic organisational requirements. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing views. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, with transitions that lack smooth integration, such as 'Firstly people who believe...' and 'On the other hand, few individuals say...'. Furthermore, referencing and logical progression within paragraphs are occasionally hindered by abrupt shifts in thought and repetitive sentence openings, placing the essay comfortably within the mid-range for this criterion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student displays a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary suitable for discussing environmental topics, employing terms such as 'extinction', 'deforestation', and 'global warming'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors in word choice, spelling, and word form that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include 'speices' for species, 'popullation' for population, 'geniune' for genuine, and awkward phrasing such as 'due air pollution' instead of due to air pollution. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are often compromised by these persistent inaccuracies and non-standard collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing exhibits a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in grammatical structures, punctuation, and agreement throughout the text, such as missing articles ('the ozon layer'), incorrect verb forms ('other says', 'both of them... talks'), and run-on structures without proper punctuation breaks. These frequent errors require the reader to decode the meaning and can cause some difficulty, reflecting a performance characteristic of this grammar level.
