Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While the student mentions both views regarding biodiversity loss and other environmental issues and provides a personal opinion in the conclusion, the ideas are limited and under-developed. For example, the mention of deforestation and climate change lacks detailed explanation or robust supporting evidence. Furthermore, the position is somewhat unclear due to repetitive and slightly contradictory phrasing at the end of the text. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to fully extend and support their ideas with clear, well-developed arguments and examples for both sides of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates some overall organisation, but there is no clear logical progression throughout the text. While basic cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude' are used, they are at times mechanical or inaccurate. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final conclusion contains heavily tangled and repetitive thoughts that disrupt the flow of ideas. For instance, the concluding paragraph includes stray sentences that repeat earlier points rather than smoothly synthesising the arguments. To improve, the writer must ensure that each paragraph builds logically upon the previous one and that referencing and signposting are handled with greater precision.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common terms such as 'ecosystem', 'deforestation', and 'extinction', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and phrasing, such as 'animals and plants loss' and 'diversity among animals and plantss'. Spelling errors like 'enivronmental' also occur. These lexical inaccuracies and limited variety mean the range remains restricted. To achieve a higher score, the student should expand their vocabulary repertoire, focus on correct word forms and collocations, and eliminate spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a limited range of sentence structures, with frequent errors that can cause some difficulty for the reader. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are often faulty or poorly punctuated, such as missing commas in conditional structures and run-on sentences in the conclusion ('...plants, While others think...'). Errors in plurals, articles, and verb tenses are frequent throughout the response, including phrases like 'impact a individuals life' and 'the new era there is more extinction seen'. To progress, the writer needs to increase their grammatical accuracy, ensure proper subject-verb agreement, and exercise better control over punctuation and complex sentence patterns.
