Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Few individuals argue that the main environmental problems of our time are result in the loss of the some specific species of plants and animals. Others believe that there are more environmental problems. I completely agree with the both views that it is dangerous for plants and animals and also create more environmental problems.
Firstly, it is noticed that if the environmental problems will increase day by day it may results in several issues such as loss of species of animals and plants. For example, if the temperature increases in the environment it may result in loss of species. Some species can not tolerance the heat and results in extinction of species. On the other hand, it may also result in extinction of some species of plants. Some species may also result in migration of birds.
Secondly, it also seem that if the environmental problems increase it may result in several problems such as melting of glaciers and deforestation of plants. For example, it melts the glacier more as compare to the past which may result in several floods. Additionally, it also increase deforestation which may results in climate change. Deforestation may results in heavy rainfall and severe weather condition.
In conclusion, I believe that the environmental problems are very dangerous for our ecosystem. It also plays very important role in our weather and climate if deforestation should not stop it can be very dangerous for individuals and ecosystem. It is better to take precautionary measures to reduce the environmental problems

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to discuss the two views regarding environmental problems and mentions the loss of specific species alongside other global issues, the position stated in the introduction is somewhat confused, claiming complete agreement with both views simultaneously without distinct separation. The ideas presented are limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on biodiversity loss and rising temperatures relies heavily on repetitive phrasing, such as repeating that temperature increases 'may result in loss of species' without providing fully extended supporting examples or deep exploration. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to ensure that both perspectives are clearly articulated, properly contrasted, and supported by well-developed, specific examples rather than generalised statements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organisation evident in the text, with an introduction, distinct body paragraphs, and a concluding sentence, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal flow of logic is hindered by repetitive structures and mechanical transitions like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly', which do not always connect ideas smoothly. Referencing and logical progression are frequently weak; for example, the phrase 'it also seem that if the environmental problems increase' is used repetitively to introduce subsequent points without guiding the reader clearly through a structured argument. To achieve a stronger level, the writer must establish a more logical progression between sentences and use a wider, more accurate variety of cohesive devices to link arguments naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range demonstrated is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic concepts related to the environment. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'extinction', 'deforestation', and 'ecosystem', but these attempts are frequently marred by noticeable word-form and collocation errors, such as 'plants and animals are result in' or 'tolerance the heat' instead of 'tolerate the heat'. Additionally, repetitive use of basic vocabulary items like 'environmental problems', 'results', and 'species' restricts the precision and flexibility of the writing. For improvement, the writer should focus on expanding word choices, ensuring correct grammatical forms of words are used, and avoiding the heavy repetition of key phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or repetitive complex constructions that are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Some species can not tolerance'), incorrect verb forms ('may results in'), and problems with articles and prepositions. For example, sentences such as 'it melts the glacier more as compare to the past' contain structural inaccuracies that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To progress, the student needs to develop better control over basic grammatical structures, improve tense consistency, and eliminate frequent errors in verb inflection and pluralisation.
