Student answer (Band 6.0)
Extinction of some species of flora and fauna is the prominent environmental issue according to some people. While, others say there are more important environmental issues. This essay will discuss about both the views along with my own opinion.
On the one hand, loss of some vital species of plants and animals have led the foundation for the severe environmental problems as they are the cornerstone for the ecological system of the planet. Extinction of one species can disbalance the whole ecological system which can push the whole planet at the verge of collapsing. For example, if the plants extinct, which are the primary soure of food for herbivores, can result in their extinxtion as well. Ultimately, it can also adversely effect the carnivores.
On the other hand, some species extinction cannot be the only poblem to cope with because there are various other negative activities which can arise the environment issues. For eample, pollution, exploitation of natural resources and fossil fuels for the purpose of making money. All these mentioned sources of destruction can amplify the environmental issues. To extend this, if pollution will mushroom rapidly it can result in high air quality index directly targetting the health of people and making the terminally diseases omnipresent.
In my opinion, although lossing species significantly evokes the environmental problems, but there are several other negative developments that are more vital to be addressed by the concerned authorities for halting lethal outcomes they can bring.
To conclude, it is very impotant for the people and the goverment to take conscientious steps to reatliate with the issues imposing threat to the planet.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—that species extinction is the primary environmental concern and that other issues are more significant—while also presenting a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, some ideas are under-developed rather than fully explored. For instance, the discussion on other environmental problems lists issues like pollution and the exploitation of natural resources, but these points lack deeper elaboration or specific real-world examples beyond general statements. The position is maintained throughout the essay, but the depth of support for each argument varies, which places this aspect firmly in the middle band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logic to the progression of ideas, moving successfully from an introduction to body paragraphs presenting opposing views, followed by a personal opinion and conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each body paragraph dedicated to a distinct viewpoint. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In my opinion' are used to guide the reader through the text, although some cohesive referencing and transitions feel slightly mechanical or formulaic. The response successfully bridges the gap into the higher band through its clear overall organization and logical paragraph structure, despite occasional lapses in transitional flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used provides an adequate range for the task, allowing the writer to communicate ideas about ecology, extinction, and pollution effectively. There are successful attempts to use less common items such as 'cornerstone', 'omnipresent', and 'conscientious'. However, inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form prevent it from reaching a higher level. Examples include 'discuss about' (instead of just 'discuss'), 'disbalance' (instead of 'imbalance'), 'soures' and 'extinxtion' (spelling slips), and 'lossing species' (incorrect word form). Fortunately, these lexical errors do not impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments without significant strain.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional clauses and relative clauses, such as 'if the plants extinct... can result in their extinxtion as well'. However, attempts at complex sentences are frequently marred by grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('loss of some vital species... have led', 'if pollution will mushroom'). There are also noticeable errors with prepositions, articles, and word forms within grammatical patterns. While communication is rarely completely impeded, frequent minor and moderate errors across various sentence structures keep the accuracy profile characteristic of this specific band.
