Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays ,environment is get worse every year.some people think that the extinction of some plants and animals is the biggest problem, while others believe there are another more important problems. In this essay i will discuss both views and i will give my opinion.

On the one hand, losing species are very seroius problem.every animal and plant have a role in nature, for example bees help the flowers to grow and give us a food.If bees disappear, farmers will have a less crops and people will be hungry. Also,in india the tiger number is going down because of hunting and forest cutting.when one species is gone ,it can never come back,so it is permanent lose.

On the other hand ,i think there are more bigger pronlems like climate change and pollution. The temperature of earth is rising because of the factories and cars which produce many smoke. This cause floods ,droughts and the ice in poles is melting. In my city surat,we had a big flood in few years ago and many poeple lost thier homes.moreover, air pollution make many people sick, especially childern and old people too.climate change is the most important problem ,beacuse it is the reason of the animal loss too.For example ,when the weather is too hot, many animals can not survive and they die.so if we solve climate change ,we can also saving the species.

in conclusion ,both of the views are have some truth ,but i believie that climate change and pollution are more serious than the loss of species and government should take action quickly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the loss of species and other environmental problems such as climate change—and provides a clear personal position throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as mentioning bees and their role in nature, and the reference to tigers in India. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise or under-develop certain points, such as the brief mention of forest cutting. The main arguments are well-formulated, ensuring that the response meets the requirements for a clear overview of the topic while presenting a well-sustained argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organisation throughout, making use of paragraphing to separate different viewpoints and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'in conclusion' are used to structure the text, though referencing and transitions can occasionally feel a bit mechanical. The writing fully satisfies the lower band criteria while showing some elements of the next, maintaining a logical flow from the introduction through the body paragraphs to the final verdict, ensuring the reader can follow the writer's line of thought without confusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'extinction', 'permanent lose', and 'droughts'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as 'seroius', 'pronlems', 'thier', and 'childern', alongside awkward collocations like 'forest cutting' instead of deforestation. These lexical inaccuracies and occasional spelling mistakes reflect a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary, occasionally causing slight strain for the reader while still allowing the general meaning to be communicated.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures like conditional sentences ('If bees disappear, farmers will have a less crops') and relative clauses ('cars which produce many smoke'). However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('in india', 'at poles'), subject-verb agreement issues ('every animal and plant have', 'both of the views are have'), and capitalization errors at the beginning of sentences and with proper nouns. These frequent errors in basic structures and punctuation limit the grammatical range and accuracy of the response.
