Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The length requirement is NOT met: the response contains 208 words, which is 42 words short of the 250-word minimum (9 words copied from the task prompt were not counted). The response addresses the task only minimally and tangentially. While the writer attempts to discuss the loss of plant and animal species, the discussion of the opposing view is incomplete, stopping abruptly in the second body paragraph. Ideas are very limited and under-developed, relying on repetitive assertions rather than well-supported arguments. Furthermore, the writer's position is not consistently clear throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently. The essay lacks logical progression and clear overall organisation, exacerbated by the premature ending in the second body paragraph. Although the writer uses meta-language labels such as "body paragraph one" and "body paragragh 2", paragraphing is used inappropriately and fails to structure the essay effectively. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive, making the flow difficult to follow. Referencing is frequently unclear, which strains the reader's ability to track the development of ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, utilizing a limited range of words such as "environment", "problem", "plants", and "animals" throughout the text. There are numerous errors in word choice, word form, and spelling, such as "peoples", "belive", "specicies", "dangerours", "agaii", "planimals", and "becauscause". These noticeable errors and the repetitive nature of the lexicon strain the reader and reflect a restricted vocabulary adequate only for very basic communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, consisting mostly of run-on sentences joined by conjunctions or lacking proper punctuation entirely. Errors are frequent across the text, including issues with verb forms, subject-verb agreement, missing articles, and incorrect prepositions. Sentences such as "the medicines which made from that plants will be not make agaii" exhibit heavy interference and frequent errors that distort meaning and cause severe difficulty for the reader.
