Student answer (Band 5.0)

There are an ongoing debate about environmental pollution. Numerous individual believe that in todays era, the pollution occurs mainly for loss of several species of plants and animals. On the other hand, many people assume that others problem are responsible for this pheonomenon. From my perspective, there are significant number of reasons behind environmental damage.

On the one hand, day-by-day many species are demolished. Although certain difficulities are arrived by damages of plants and animals, I still believe that overpopulation are the main obstacle to growth of our nature. Perhaps, more than 60 types of species are died over the time. So that it impacts negatively in our surrounding. For example, dinosaur which is destroyed 100 years ago. As a consequences, it reduced the development of environment.

On the other hand, despite many issues happens by reduction of animals and plants, I think that a lot of pollution occurs by humans. Furthermore, too many traffic congestion produce CO2 which is detrimental for ecosystem. For instance, in big cities, there are overpopulation and most of the citizens have their own private car. So that, it obstruct the development of nature. As a result, in upcoming days, there will be take places more environmental damages.

To sum up, if general public take proper steps to maintain their lives, it will be beneficial for future generations. Therefore, from my point of view, not only does the reduction of species but also using too many vehicles could destroy our nature. By taking appropriate steps, this problem will be over.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to discuss both views on environmental problems and provides an opinion, the ideas are limited and under-developed. For instance, the prompt asks to discuss the loss of plant and animal species versus other environmental problems, but the arguments rely on vague generalisations, such as claiming that 'more than 60 types of species are died over the time' or citing dinosaurs. The student's position is somewhat discernible in the introduction and conclusion, but the lack of clear, fully elaborated supporting examples prevents the response from reaching a higher level of task response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response exhibits some organisation through the use of standard paragraphing and basic signposts like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', but there is a lack of clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, such as the frequent misuse of transitions like 'So that' and 'As a consequences'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, leaving the logical connections between sentences strained. While the text is divided into logical sections, the mechanical use of cohesive ties and the halting flow between ideas mean the overall arrangement remains at a basic level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common items related to the environment, such as 'ecosystem', 'detrimental', and 'overpopulation', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation, such as 'species are demolished', 'others problem', and 'pheonomenon'. Spelling and morphological inaccuracies, including 'difficulities' and 'consequences' used as singular/plural mismatches, occur throughout the text and cause some difficulty for the reader in places, though meaning can generally still be deciphered.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside frequent attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement and verb forms, such as 'There are an ongoing debate', 'Numerous individual believe', and 'species are died'. Furthermore, articles and plurals are frequently mishandled, and punctuation errors occur. These frequent mistakes across basic and complex structures cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control of grammatical accuracy.
