Student answer (Band 5.0)

In our time, environmental problems are increased gradually as compare to before. There are different problems but the most eye-catching problem according to the people is the lose of particular species of plants. While other think differently. Taking every one's opinion in consideration, I want to present mine.

From my perspective, the main environmental problem of our time is pollution. In our daily life, we see many polluted areas. Moreover, the main reason for this is human itself. We throw our waste directly into streets and rivers which increase the pollution and disturbs the people living there. There are different kinds of pollution. Such as, land pollution, air pollution and water pollution. These types of pollution are climped up due to the human's resources.

Placing a look on land pollution, we see the towers of waste in our town or areas. Some people even throw there household waste directly into streets. The some of industrial waste is also included in land pollution. While on the other hand, air pollution also affects our environment. We use transportation in our daily basis. The smoke came from them makes the air unbreathable. However, the brickes companies make it more worse.

On the third hand, now water pollution is being discussed. The waste of pipe lines and guters are thrown directly into rivers and ponds which affects us. Moreover, most of the time the industrial waste is also thrown there, which affects the water lives more than human. The industrial waste may contain different harmful chemicals that easily took the breath of anyone. It also affects the eco system.

According to people, extinction of some plants species also effects the environment due to the fact that plants help us to make our environment clean and breathable. Plants produce oxygen to us to breath but we are cutting them for our new generation. While the other people's thinkng is also true that there are more important enviromental problems.

To sum up, the main cause of environmental problems are humans. If we take care of our environment like our-selves we will never face most of the problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt only partially. While the student mentions both views regarding environmental problems—the loss of species and other problems such as pollution—the position is not always clear throughout the essay. The ideas presented are limited and under-developed, particularly when discussing plant extinction and how plants help clean the environment, where points are stated rather than extended. Furthermore, 8 words copied directly from the task prompt were not included in the official word count check. The overall task response reflects a basic attempt to cover all parts of the task, but lacks the depth and fully articulated reasoning required for higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but the essay lacks a clear overall progression. The use of cohesive devices is frequently mechanical, repetitive, or inaccurate, as seen in awkward transitions like 'From my perspective', 'Placing a look on land pollution', and 'On the third hand'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas within paragraphs feels disjointed, such as mixing household and industrial waste within the discussion on land pollution. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, making the logical flow difficult to follow consistently.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate basic ideas about pollution and plant extinction. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling throughout the text, such as 'lose' instead of 'loss', 'climped up' instead of 'piled up or accumulated', 'brickes' instead of 'brick', 'guters' instead of 'gutters', and 'water lives' instead of 'aquatic life'. These lexical inaccuracies occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control of less common vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer employs a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex forms that are often faulty. There are persistent errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage that frequently cause difficulty for the reader, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('environmental problems are increased', 'smoke came from them'), incorrect prepositions ('in our daily basis'), and awkward phrasing ('the some of industrial waste'). Punctuation is also problematic in places, including missing commas and run-on structures.
