Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Others say that there are more important environmental problems. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Today, with the increase in the technology, developmental activities and infrastructural boom, certainly it is damaging the environment in one or the other way. Also the reason for the environmental problems is the ignorance of humans concerning the nature and its importance in their life. There are many kinds of environmental problems exists today.
There are people who believe that the loss of particular species of plants and animals is the main environmental problem of this time. And they are correct also . Loss of particular species whether of plants or animals, one thing it is disturbing the food chain which then have a cascading effect on other species as well. Looking at the environmental point of view it is also a loss in the beauty of nature which further imbalance the biome. Additionally, ther are plants with a great nutrional or medicinal value. Extinction of that can creat a health problems in human beings. At last, loss of particular species of animal shows the human quest to blind development that costs to their morality.
There are other environmental problems as well which are also more or less man made only. Like the development of factories with no good safety policies eith regard to workers and environment. For example, Bhopal gas tragedy, which costs lots of lives and pollution to environment that is air pollution due to the leakage of harmful and toxic gas. Building industries and factories and multinational complex and hospitals requires land. This land comes at the cost of deforestation. Today global warming and climate change are real phenomenon which takes the lives of millions of people every year. Due to climate change there is a rise in the sea level which is harmful for the cities built at the sea coasts.
Surely, environmental problems are real whether of particular species or climate change or other and it is damaging the human civilization which has takes billions of year to built and be at this position now. And what will we give to our next generation by this blind developmant , an uncertain future with lots of environmantal problems?
In my opinion environmental problem is a burning issue which need to look in immediately.
Thus, issue of environment should be looked with the sustainable solutions. Awareness should be bring among people about this is the first step and policy optimization at government level is the need of the hour concerning the environment and biodiversity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You discuss both views: species loss is linked to food-chain disruption, biodiversity and medicinal plants, while other problems include industrial pollution, deforestation and climate change. You also state that environmental problems require urgent action, so a general position is present. However, the task asks you to compare the importance of these problems and give your own opinion; your conclusion calls the issue urgent but does not clearly say which view you find more convincing. Several points are asserted rather than explained—for example, the claim that climate change takes millions of lives each year is not supported with a specific explanation or example. Develop the comparison and make your judgement explicit throughout. The response meets the task’s length requirement; nine words copied from the prompt were not counted.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding section. This helps the reader identify the main topics. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and several ideas are joined mechanically with “Additionally,” “At last,” and “Thus.” The paragraph beginning “There are other environmental problems” lists factories, the Bhopal disaster, deforestation and climate change without clearly showing how each supports the comparison in the question. Some references are also difficult to follow, such as “Extinction of that” and “it is damaging.” Use clearer topic sentences, connect each example directly to its point, and make pronoun references explicit to improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt topic-specific vocabulary, including “food chain,” “medicinal value,” “deforestation,” “global warming,” “climate change” and “sea level.” These choices make the subject clear and show some range beyond basic environmental terms. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or awkward, as in “infrastructural boom,” “blind development,” “costs to their morality” and “policy optimization.” Spelling errors such as “nutrional,” “developmant” and “environmantal” also reduce accuracy. Some phrases are repeated, particularly “environmental problems,” without more precise alternatives. Build a reliable set of collocations for discussing causes, consequences and solutions, and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “plants with a great…medicinal value” and a cause-and-effect construction beginning “Due to climate change.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to process. For example, “There are many kinds of environmental problems exists” combines incompatible verb forms, while “which further imbalance the biome” has an agreement error. The opening sentence also has an unclear subject and verb relationship, and “which has takes billions of year” contains several form errors. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence for a complete, consistent structure.
