Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You identify both sides of the debate: species loss and other environmental problems, and you begin to state a view with “this essay believes.” However, the response does not explain what the other, more significant problems are or develop why you consider them more important. The brief points that animals need “fresh air and food” and that a fresh environment is good for people do not provide relevant reasons or examples to support either side. The response is also far below the required 250 words, so the task is addressed only minimally. To improve, explain each view, give a specific example, and state and support your own position clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

The opening attempts to introduce the two positions, and “however” and “while” signal contrast, so there is a basic effort to connect ideas. However, the response is a single short block rather than a developed essay with an introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion. The relationship between the claim about species loss and the later comments about animals needing air and food is not made clear, and the final point about a fresh environment does not follow through into a conclusion. Some linking is also awkwardly punctuated, as in “however some people…” and “issues .while…”. Organise the discussion into paragraphs and use clear links to show how each reason supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You attempt some topic-related vocabulary, including “extinction,” “specific species,” “ecological balance” and “jeopardises,” which shows an effort to discuss environmental issues rather than relying only on very basic words. However, spelling and word-form errors are frequent and sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to identify: “flores and faunas,” “enviromentalconcern,” “plantes” and “animels.” Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “the measure environmental concern these says” and “other problems like its.” Build accuracy with standard forms such as “flora and fauna,” “environmental concern today” and “other environmental problems.” A wider set of precise terms for pollution, climate change and habitat loss would help you explain the debate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There is an attempt to use a complex contrast structure in “while it cannot be denied that…,” as well as a relative clause in “issues like its.” These attempts show some range, but control is inconsistent. The opening sentence has no clear grammatical structure, and “this essay belives that thare are other problems” does not lead to a complete, clearly expressed comparison. The final fragment, “animal is also they need…,” combines incompatible sentence patterns, while “everything’s” does not function correctly in its sentence. Capitalisation and sentence boundaries are also unreliable. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check agreement, articles and punctuation before adding more complex clauses.
