Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies the two broad positions in the prompt and begins to explain how housing development can destroy habitats, with population growth offered as a relevant cause. However, the discussion is only partial: the alternative environmental problems are mentioned in the introduction but never explained, and the writer’s own opinion is not stated. The example about forests and animal shelters is relevant but remains unfinished, so the main idea is not developed or supported sufficiently. The response also does not meet the required minimum length, which leaves major parts of the task unanswered. To improve, complete both sides of the discussion, state a clear personal view, and support each point with a specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introduction is followed by a paragraph beginning “On one hand,” and the ideas about population, housing and habitat loss are broadly connected. The opening also signals that both views will be discussed. However, the promised progression is not completed: there is no contrasting “other hand” section or conclusion, and the final sentence breaks off, leaving the paragraph without a clear endpoint. Some links are awkward or unclear, such as “While builders cut down the trees” followed by a shift to plants becoming extinct. Build a complete structure with separate paragraphs for each view and a conclusion, and use linking phrases to show how each example supports its point.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some topic-related vocabulary, including “loss of species,” “housing,” “population,” “forests” and “shelters of animals,” so the reader can identify the environmental subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, which makes some phrases difficult to interpret. Examples include “safehouse” for the natural environment, “reduced in environmental greenery,” and “the more wants of luxuries living.” Spelling errors such as “enviroment,” “inidviduals” and “extisited” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural collocations and check spelling; for example, use “natural habitat,” “decline in green spaces,” and “demand for a more luxurious lifestyle.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the main problem … is the loss of plants and animals” and a time clause beginning “While builders cut down the trees.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence structure and grammatical forms are frequent enough to make several sentences awkward. For example, “Some peoples believes” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “increase in population leads … and lead” does not maintain agreement across the coordinated verbs. “The few factors responsible … are cutting down tree” also has an unclear grammatical relationship between the subject and complement. Practise agreement, articles and plural forms, and revise each sentence to ensure its clauses connect clearly.
