Student answer (Band 4.5)

Some citizens debate that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals while others debate that there are more important environmental problems. According to my opinion the most important environmental problem is cutting of trees which is the most common as well as debatable issue cutting of trees takes place due to the higher rate of factories as well as industries, trees are also damaged due to the higher rate of pollution which is mostly caused due to low rate of trees and higher rate of pollution as well as chemicals, according to me there are several problems that are caused by loss of wildlife species as well as trees for instance, loss of fresh oxygen so the industries should be reduced, and home made products should be used. for instance if the trees will be planted more then availability of fresh fruits will be higher, as well as food will be the organic ones. there will be no use of pesticide and the danger of chemicals will be reduced, but there will be a threat to the individuals who consumed them for instance if we consume the chemical based fruit then we will definatly go through a serious disease which sometimes has no cure. use of pesticides mostly works to keep the fruit or any other food item fresh for several days. whereas organic fruit is not easier to find due to polluted environment. which is caused due to higher usage of factories as well as pesticides.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify tree loss as your own priority and mention consequences such as reduced oxygen and risks associated with chemical use. However, the task asks you to discuss both the loss of particular plant and animal species and other environmental problems. The response focuses mainly on trees, pollution, and pesticides; it does not explain the importance of species loss as a distinct view or compare it with other problems. Your position is present but not clearly developed, and examples are difficult to follow. The response is also 239 words, 11 words below the 250-word minimum; 18 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To improve, address each view in a separate, developed paragraph and explain why you consider one more serious.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a recognisable central focus—environmental damage and your preference for addressing tree loss—but the ideas are not arranged into clear paragraphs or a logical discussion of both sides. Much of the response is one long sequence, moving from factories and trees to oxygen, fruit, pesticides, and disease without explaining the links between these points. Connectors such as “for instance,” “as well as,” and “whereas” are repeated or do not establish a clear contrast. The final sentence introduces polluted environments but does not provide a conclusion. Use separate paragraphs for the two views and your opinion, and make each sentence develop the point before moving on.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate a general environmental topic, with relevant terms such as “wildlife species,” “pollution,” “pesticides,” and “organic.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, including repeated references to “higher rate” and “loss of fresh oxygen.” Some combinations sound unnatural, such as “home made products” in this context and “the organic ones.” Spelling errors such as “definatly” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise environmental vocabulary and vary repeated expressions; for example, describe “deforestation,” “habitat loss,” or “declining biodiversity” where appropriate. This would make your ideas clearer and more suitable for an academic discussion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to connect ideas using subordinate clauses and conditional forms, as in “if the trees will be planted more,” but the response relies heavily on long, loosely joined sentences. Several sentence boundaries are missing, particularly after “issue” and before “for instance,” which makes relationships between clauses difficult to follow. There are also errors in articles, agreement, and verb forms, such as “the organic ones” and “if the trees will be planted.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, including lowercase sentence openings after full stops. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then add accurate complex structures—for example, “If more trees were planted, fruit availability would increase.”
