Student answer (Band 6.5)

Environmental problem becoming more serious day by day. some people believe that the extinction of plants and animals is the biggest environmental problem, while others think that issues such as air pollution and climate change are more important. This essay will discuss both views, and closely connected.

On the one hand, the loss of plant and animal species is a serous problem because every living things plays an important role in nature. For example, bees help plants grow by pollination, while trees provide oxygen and shelter for many animals. If some species become extinct, the natural balance can be disturbed. As a result, human may also face problems with food production and other natural resources.

On the other hand, many people argue that environmental problems such as air pollution and global warming are more important. These issues directly affect human health and daily life. For instance, polluted air can cause breathing problem, while climate change can lead to floods, droughts and extreme temperature. These problem can damage homes, destroy crops and threaten the lives of millions of people.

In my opinion. both views are important because environmental problems are interconnected. pollution and climate change can destroy the natural habitats of animals and plants, leading to the extinction of different species. Therefore, governments and individuals should work together to reduce pollution, protect forests and use natural resources responsibly.

In conclusion, although the loss of plant animal species is a major concern, other environmental problems are equally serious. i believe that we should address all these issues to protect our planet and ensure a better our planet and ensure a better future for the next generation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses both perspectives and gives a clear personal view: species loss is serious, but pollution and climate change are equally important because environmental problems are interconnected. Relevant examples, including pollination, oxygen, breathing problems, floods and droughts, support the main points. This fits the descriptor’s expectation that all parts are addressed and ideas are extended with support. To strengthen the response further, develop the comparison more explicitly: explain why pollution or climate change may affect more people or ecosystems than the loss of individual species, or clarify how species loss can have wider consequences. The conclusion also repeats the idea of protecting the planet rather than adding a precise final implication.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, a paragraph stating your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the structure easy to follow, while examples generally appear beside the claims they support. This is a logical and effective organisation. Some linking is less controlled, however: “This essay will discuss both views, and closely connected” does not clearly express the relationship between the views, and the final sentence repeats “a better … future” after an earlier phrase. Use transitions to show the precise relationship between ideas, and check the conclusion for accidental repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “extinction,” “pollination,” “natural balance,” “habitats,” and “natural resources.” These terms help communicate the environmental issues clearly, and the examples show some ability to use more specific language. At times, however, word choice, spelling, or collocation is inaccurate: “serous problem” appears to mean “serious problem,” “extreme temperature” is less natural than “extreme temperatures,” and “a better our planet” is unclear. There is also repetition of broad terms such as “problems” and “important.” Build precision by learning common environmental collocations and proofreading spelling and word forms; this will make the vocabulary more flexible and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes a mix of simple sentences and more developed structures, including conditional and subordinate clauses: “If some species become extinct, the natural balance can be disturbed” and “although the loss … is a major concern.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. The opening lacks a finite verb (“Environmental problem becoming…”), and there are agreement and number errors in “every living things plays,” “human may,” and “These problem can.” Punctuation and capitalisation also need attention, particularly the sentence fragment-like opening and lowercase “some” and “i.” Aim to produce accurate basic sentences consistently, then retain complex structures while checking subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries.
