Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some individual say that loss of paticular species of plants and animals are the major environmental issue in their times while other say that there are various probems rather than these. There can be alot of reasons behind environmental damage it can be loss of species or other factors. If we talk about species than every specie then it may be plant or animal plays a very cucial role in environment because every specie is specially made for a particular task. For instance, plants pay a very vital role in maintaining our ecosystem they give tons of oxygen to us and in contrast they absord carbon dixide from the environment alse plants are food factories like they give us variety of fruits and vegetables. Moreover, there are other factors it may can include human activities like factories smoke, traffic pollution ,air pollution, chemical experiments and other unhygeinic conditions. because these factors effect environment and atmosphere both in a very effective way. For example, factories smoke contain a variety of deteriorate effluents like lifetaking gases nitrogen and sulphur oxides and including traffic dust or smoke because these vehicles fuel can be very dangerous. In addition to land pollution is one of the most significant effect , nowadays people throw garbage everywhere without knowing that it can create alot of problems and spread diseases. It can cause allergies to animals or humans or can also efect plants due to the fact that everything is meant to grow in an hygeinic environment. In my opninnion, both the views are totally noticeable. Environmental problems can be arisen by even loss of species or by otheer factors.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views by discussing species loss and other environmental pressures, and you give a position in the conclusion: “both the views are totally noticeable.” The examples about plants providing oxygen and factories producing harmful emissions are relevant. However, the discussion is uneven and the central comparison is not fully developed. The response explains why species matter, then lists pollution and waste, but does not clearly establish which problem you consider more important or why. Your final opinion largely repeats that both views matter rather than answering the comparison directly. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of each problem and state a clear, consistent judgement about their relative importance, supported by a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some organisation: the response moves from species loss to other environmental problems and ends with an opinion. Linking expressions such as “For instance,” “Moreover,” and “In addition” help signal examples and additions. However, progression is difficult to follow because several points are crowded into one paragraph, and the links between ideas are sometimes unclear. For example, the discussion shifts from factory emissions to land pollution without a clear structure, while “because these factors effect environment” does not connect smoothly to the preceding sentence. The conclusion also repeats earlier points rather than drawing them together. Use separate paragraphs for each view and your opinion, and make each paragraph develop one main idea in a clear sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt topic-specific vocabulary, including “ecosystem,” “carbon dioxide,” “effluents,” and “land pollution,” which helps communicate the subject. There is also some effort to vary expression through phrases such as “vital role” and “significant effect.” However, the range is limited and many spelling and word-choice errors make the writing less clear, including “paticular,” “probems,” “absord,” and “hygeinic.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “plants pay a very vital role” and “factories smoke.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, use “play a vital role,” “factory emissions,” and “harmful gases” rather than the less precise phrases in the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a conditional structure in “If we talk about species…” and clauses introduced by “because” and “although”-type reasoning. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors sometimes make relationships between ideas hard to understand. Examples include “loss … are the major environmental issue,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect, and “every specie … plays,” where the singular form and sentence construction need attention. Several sentences also run together or lack clear punctuation, particularly the long sentence beginning “For instance, plants…” Practise building shorter, complete sentences first, then add subordinate clauses with accurate agreement, articles, and punctuation.
