Student answer (Band 4.5)
Some people believe the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals, while others argue that there are more important envronmental problems. I believe that there are more congient evironmental issues and in the eassy, i will discuse both views and explain my perpectives.
It can be seen that there are diferent environmental problems causing damage to mankinds, even though dead plants and animal can also be a problem in the environment. one of it is water pollution, oil spillage or dumping of refuse in to the river can lead of aquatic lifes and also cause blockage to drainages leading to stagnant waters around the house, aslo causing harmful smell and breading of mosquitoes in the environment. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You introduce the topic and state a position—“there are more” important environmental issues—and your examples of water pollution and noise pollution are relevant to the second view. However, the response does not adequately discuss the opposing view about species loss: it is only briefly mentioned, with no explanation of why it matters. Your own position is also not developed or supported with a clear comparison, and the final point about noise is cut off. The response contains 166 words, so it is 84 words below the required minimum; this leaves too little space to address both views and give a developed opinion. To improve, explain the consequences of species extinction, then compare its importance with other environmental threats and support your conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introduction is followed by a paragraph on pollution, and “Futhermore” signals another point. The examples generally relate to the topic, so the reader can identify the main direction of the argument. However, the response ends mid-sentence (“it can lead to disap…”), and there is no conclusion or clear progression back to your stated opinion. Some links are awkward or unclear, such as “one of it,” while the long explanation of refuse, drainage, erosion and damage is difficult to follow as one chain of ideas. Use separate paragraphs for each view, make cause-and-effect links explicit, and finish with a conclusion that answers the question.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “water pollution,” “oil spillage,” “aquatic life,” “stagnant waters” and “erosion.” These choices show an effort to discuss environmental effects rather than relying only on general words. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word forms are frequent enough to distract the reader, for example “envronmental,” “congient,” “evironmental,” “diferent” and “pollusion.” Some combinations are also unnatural or unclear, such as “dead plants and animal” and “peace of the society is triggered.” Choose accurate, familiar expressions before attempting more complex vocabulary, and check spelling and collocations carefully. More precise terms for species decline and noise pollution would also help you discuss both sides of the question.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You make some attempts to connect clauses and express cause and effect, as in the sentence beginning “oil spillage or dumping of refuse in to the river can lead…”. However, sentence structures are often incomplete or difficult to control. The final sentence is unfinished, and the opening of the second paragraph begins with a fragment-like construction: “It can be seen that there are different environmental problems…”. There are also problems with agreement, articles and plurals, as in “dead plants and animal can,” and with sentence boundaries and capitalisation after full stops. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Practise writing complete sentences with one main idea each, then check subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation.
