Student answer (Band 4.5)

Some people says that our problem about environment is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. It is true we have a problem that whenever we need to build a building and to construct road we loss the many plants. It means we cutted the plants and as we know that plants give us oxygen and are houses of many animals and birds.By cutting the plants there is a many polloution causes affects. Some people say that there are many other problems in enviornment are also discussable. Such problems are, traffic problems ,air pollution ,water pollution. These both two views are right. My opinion is that there are many problems in the enivornment such as traffic problems ,pollution of all types are also a big problem of enivornment.I always think thahat pollution is big problem on our earth .We can control it by our self as growing plants .Which reduces the pollutants and also give us clean air for breathing . And traffic problems are very serious in our environment. These traffics create pollution in environment .and polluted the enivornment. It can be reduced by using public transport and reduced by the our own vechiles because own vechiles created more pollution than public transport. Finally my opinion is that we solve these problems by publicaly and by changing thes problems by our own self. In our time it is a loss of particularly species of plants and animals and other more important problems both are important in environment problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address both views by mentioning the loss of plants and animals as well as traffic and different forms of pollution, and you state that both are important. However, the discussion is brief and the reasons are only partly explained: for example, you note that plants provide oxygen and habitats, but do not develop the consequences of species loss or compare its seriousness with other environmental problems. Your own position is present, especially in the suggestions about planting and public transport, but it is not consistently clear which problem you consider most important. The response is 237 words, so it is 13 words below the required minimum; this limits the space available to develop the ideas and examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response has a recognisable progression: it introduces species loss, lists other environmental concerns, gives your opinion and offers possible solutions. Basic linking expressions such as “Some people say,” “My opinion is,” and “Finally” help signal these stages. However, the ideas are not arranged into clear paragraphs, and several points run together, making the discussion difficult to follow. Connections are sometimes unclear, as in “These both two views are right,” and the final sentence repeats the two sides rather than drawing the argument together. Use separate paragraphs for each view and your opinion, and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “species,” “oxygen,” “air pollution,” “water pollution,” “pollutants,” and “public transport,” so the reader can identify the environmental issues you mean. However, the range is basic and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “problems,” “environment,” and “pollution.” Inaccurate word choice and spelling also make some expressions harder to understand, such as “polloution causes affects,” “publicaly,” and “particularly species.” Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling and word forms. For instance, describe the effects of pollution directly and use established phrases such as “loss of biodiversity” and “vehicle emissions” where they fit.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Most of the response uses short, simple statements, with a few attempts to connect ideas using clauses, such as “Which reduces the pollutants and also give us clean air.” These attempts show some willingness to vary sentence structure, but control is inconsistent and errors occur throughout. Examples include subject–verb agreement in “Some people says,” incorrect verb forms in “we cutted” and “polluted the environment,” and article or plural problems in “there is a many pollution.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable, particularly where a new sentence begins with “and” or “Which.” Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking agreement, verb forms and punctuation.
