IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Others say that there are more important environmental problems. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 4.5)
enviorment issues are major concern today while some argue that the extinction of plants and animal is most critical problem other believe like climate change and pollution ithis eassy will discuss bothviews and argue that other enviormental problem are more significant
there are many things that disturbt enviorment the main role play by the break of foodchain in ecosystem when the food chain is break it is very dengreous forus and the critical role is the ratio of the forest it decrease day by day and the plants are not available in forest because the people use the plants in diffrent thing
for example
use the plant in the medicine and other things like foods etc
the main issue for envorimental problem is loss of plants and the animal that is important for humans
for example
as per as my prospective is this decrease of the plants is very dengerous for people because plants are critical role in the medicine and other things that are use in daily life so the people take care of plants and animal
BODY 2
other believeropinion is there are most important enviormental problems is pollution that are generate by many things the large amount of the pollution are produce by the factories to polluted the envorment and other main and critical problem is the smoge generate by the cars that are use in petrol and desiel cars are produce heavy amount of the pollution aregenerated by the cars buss trucks and the suddenly climate change like flood thunderstrom that are also pollutes the envoriment
REASON
main reason of envorimental pollution are the plants and animal decrease ratio and the critical reason is the use of cars and truck and also the machine that are used in petrol and diseal
for example
my opinon is when people use the electric cars and the use of the bicycle thiis is well and decrease the pollution easily and clean the enviorment so people use electric thngs and aalso increase the plants and animal ratio for the well enviorment

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both views by discussing species loss and then pollution, vehicle emissions, and climate-related events, and you state that other environmental problems are more significant. However, the position is not consistently clear: you call species loss “the main issue” and later say pollution is the main problem, without explaining how these claims fit your overall opinion. Ideas are relevant but mostly asserted rather than developed. For instance, you mention plants’ use in medicine and food, but do not explain the consequences of losing particular species or give a specific example. To strengthen the response, distinguish the two viewpoints clearly, maintain one position throughout, and support each main point with a developed explanation or concrete example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction and separate discussions of species loss and pollution, and examples are signalled with “for example.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because paragraphing and linking are inconsistent. The labels “BODY 2” and “REASON” interrupt the essay rather than guide the reader, while several ideas appear in a confusing order—for example, the discussion of pollution is followed by a reason that again links pollution to declining plants and animals. Connections between sentences are often unclear, and repeated use of “and” does not show how ideas relate. Use clear paragraphs without labels, give each paragraph one central purpose, and use accurate linking phrases to show contrast, cause, and example.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “food chain,” “ecosystem,” “factories,” “pollution,” and “electric cars,” so the reader can identify the environmental themes. However, the range is limited and many words or phrases are repeated, particularly “main,” “critical problem,” and “environmental.” Frequent spelling errors such as “enviorment,” “dengreous,” and “smoge,” along with inaccurate combinations such as “pollution are produce,” make parts of the message harder to understand. Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “the ratio of the forest” and “plants are not available in forest.” Build a more accurate set of topic collocations and check spelling; for example, use “deforestation” or “forest loss” rather than an unclear description of forest decline.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, but control of sentence structure is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some points difficult to follow. For example, “when the food chain is break it is very dengreous forus” has an incorrect verb form and an unclear sentence boundary; “the large amount of the pollution are produce” also has problems with agreement and passive construction. Articles, plurals, and punctuation are often missing or inconsistent, as in “the extinction of plants and animal.” Most sentences rely on simple patterns joined by “and,” with few accurately controlled complex structures. Practise forming clear subject–verb sentences first, then add subordinate clauses using “because,” “when,” or “although,” and check verb forms and sentence boundaries.
