Student answer (Band 4.5)
In this paragraph we tell about the point of view of those people who agree with the statement of environmental problems causes the loss of plants and species. Environmental problems badly affect on our society and the species. There are some envirinmental problems as like; pollution and cutting of tress. These are badly affects the species because the animals are living in the tress and forest. And when we cutt the tress then they have no place to live and as soon as the diversity of animals become less. For example Markhor in pakistan is an endangered specie due to they are badly aimed on them and the environment distrubed. And the air pollution , land pollution and water pollution are the main causes of loss in plants and animals. When polluted water go into the streams this water taken by the marine animals and then they will distrub the marine system and many animals will die. There are some other environmental problems like floods, earth quack and the weather changing in the different areas. These are all effect on our environment. The sudden change in climate can causes the destortion of crops and when the crops destorted then the life of other people also distrub. When the change in climate than also the shortage of food which impacts on both animals and human. Floods are also engage in the destortion of environment. Due to flood there is severe loss in the food, animals and the diversity of human being.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response is relevant to environmental damage and gives examples such as pollution, deforestation, and the endangered markhor. However, it does not fully answer the discussion question: it mainly explains how environmental problems harm species, but does not clearly present the view that other environmental problems may be more important or compare the two positions. There is also no explicit personal opinion. Several points, including floods and climate change, are mentioned but not developed into a clear argument about their relative importance. To strengthen the response, state both views distinctly, explain why some people prioritise species loss and why others prioritise broader threats, then give and support your own position with a focused example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The ideas are connected through a general focus on environmental harm, and examples follow some of the claims. However, the response is presented as one continuous paragraph, so the two views and the writer’s own opinion are not separated or easy to identify. Progression is also difficult to follow: the discussion moves from tree cutting and pollution to climate change, food shortages, and floods without clear transitions showing how each point supports the task. Repeated links such as “and,” “then,” and “when” create a list-like sequence rather than a developed argument. Use separate paragraphs for each viewpoint and a conclusion, and use clear signposting such as “On the other hand” and “In my view” to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses a basic range of topic vocabulary, including “pollution,” “endangered,” “climate,” “crops,” and “marine animals,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, vocabulary is repetitive and several inaccurate or misspelled forms make meaning harder to follow, such as “envirinmental,” “cutt,” “specie,” “distrubed,” and “destortion.” Some combinations are also unnatural, including “badly aimed on them” and “the diversity of human being.” Aim for accurate environmental terms and natural collocations, for example “habitat loss,” “species decline,” and “severe damage to ecosystems.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise phrases will make the argument clearer and more convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There are attempts to link ideas in longer sentences using “because,” “when,” and “due to,” but sentence structures are mostly simple or joined with repeated conjunctions, and errors are frequent enough to obscure some relationships. Examples include “These are badly affects the species,” “the animals are living in the tress,” and “The sudden change in climate can causes,” where verb forms and agreement are not controlled. The sentence beginning “When polluted water go into the streams” also has subject–verb agreement problems and an unclear sequence of tenses. Punctuation and sentence boundaries need attention, particularly where several ideas are joined together. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then build controlled complex sentences with correct subject–verb agreement and verb forms.
