Student answer (Band 6.0)

Deforestation , extinction of animals and climate change are very concerning issues nowadays. A few people suggests that extinctions of and plants are major problem while others suggests there are many other threating environmental problems. In this essay we will elaborate both points and make a conclusion.

On one hand , loss of living organisms is an irreversible tragedy as they plays a vital role in maintaining our ecosystem. Due to lack of some animals and plants biodiversity is facing many problems. For example, we lost bees by sprinkling fertilizers on crops which causes killing of bees and now we are facing food shortage issues because bees are vital for plants pollination. Similarly , deforestation of Amazon forest causes lost many plants which have fundamental values. Due to lack of trees , environment's average temperature is rising as trees plays main role in cooling down of environment's temperature as well as main source of oxygen.

On the other hand, there are many other alarming environmental problems. Rise of global warming, green house effect and rise of sea level have wider impact on society it does not just affecting humans as well as it is affecting also other species. For example, 2013 and 2022 floods of Pakistan displaced millions of peoples also cause many fatalities .

In my opinion, nowadays other environmental problems are most tackling issues for us than loss of plants and animals. It is expected that in few years many countries like Maldives will lost most its area to the sea because rise in temperature will submerse its land under the sea water which will just not causes some animals and plants extinction as well as cause of lack of land.

In conclusion, both views have merit, but for now tackling climate change is more comprehensive solution for both problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear opinion: the first main paragraph explains why species loss matters, while the later paragraphs argue that climate change has broader consequences. Examples such as bees’ role in pollination and flooding in Pakistan help make the discussion relevant. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. The claim that losing bees has caused food shortages needs clearer support, and the Amazon example shifts between deforestation and species loss without showing precisely how this supports the argument. Your position that climate change is the more urgent problem is clear, but explaining how it can also accelerate species extinction would connect the two sides more convincingly and develop your reasoning further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In my opinion” makes the progression easy to follow. Some connections, however, are mechanical or unclear. The first paragraph moves from bees to the Amazon and temperature without consistently showing how each example advances the point about species loss. In the climate-change paragraph, the sentence about flooding combines several effects in a way that makes their relationship difficult to follow. Use clearer links between claim, explanation, and example, and avoid repeating the same contrast markers when a more specific transition would show the relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant environmental vocabulary, including “biodiversity,” “global warming,” “sea level,” and “extinction,” and some choices communicate the topic effectively. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “irreversible tragedy” and “fundamental values.” However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations sometimes make the meaning less natural: “threating,” “most tackling issues,” and “submerse its land” are examples. Phrases such as “loss of living organisms” are also broad where “loss of plant and animal species” would be more precise. Build accuracy by learning environmental terms in common word partnerships and checking spelling and word forms; this will make your vocabulary more precise without requiring unnecessarily complex wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “as well as,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction. For example, “A few people suggests” should be “A few people suggest,” and “they plays” should be “they play.” In “it does not just affecting humans,” the verb form is incorrect, while the sentence about sea-level rise contains several clauses that are not joined grammatically. Punctuation spacing and comma use also need attention. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and finite verb, then divide long sentences when their relationships become difficult to control.
