Student answer (Band 4.5)

We discuss about the main environmental problem in our society. Loss of particular species of plants and animals.

According to my knowledge environmental problems is very danger for our society. We can create more and more pollution in our society. Mostly people throw garbage on the road and parks. Factory throw there wast material fill into the river, who create more pollution in the water. Animals drank the pollutant water and suffering into a major diseases and last they will die. Pollutant water can damage plant roots and particular species of plants and animals.

My opinion is we should not throw garbage on the road and parks. We should throw all garbage into dustbin and clean the park and clean the road and school. Government take a strict action against to all these factory who throw wast in the river, and charge a heavy fine. Oder him to installed recycling plants and save water pollution. Install a dustbins on the road and in parks. As a responsible civilian we can throw all garbage in to dustbins, and planting a new plants, and save environmental problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies pollution and species loss as environmental concerns and gives practical suggestions, such as using bins and fining factories. However, it does not adequately discuss both views in the question: most of the response focuses on litter and water pollution, while the importance of losing particular species is only briefly mentioned. Your own position is also not clearly stated in relation to which problem is more important. The response contains 177 words, so it is 73 words below the required minimum; this limits the opportunity to explain and support the ideas. To improve, present both viewpoints, state which you consider more serious, and develop each with a specific reason or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is some basic organisation: the response moves from environmental problems to proposed actions, and the ideas about factory waste and polluted water are connected. However, the overall progression is difficult to follow because the essay does not clearly separate the two views in the prompt or build towards a conclusion. Linking is limited and sometimes repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “and” in the recommendations. The opening fragment, “Loss of particular species of plants and animals,” is not integrated into a clear introduction, and there is no concluding paragraph that restates your position. Use separate paragraphs for each viewpoint and your opinion, with clear transitions such as “On the one hand” and “In my view”.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a small set of relevant environmental terms, including “pollution,” “pollutant water,” “species,” “factory,” and “recycling plants,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, vocabulary is repetitive and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “wast material,” “save water pollution,” and “major diseases.” These expressions can make the intended meaning less clear. There are also spelling and word-form problems, including “Oder” and “dustbins” where the context calls for a more natural expression. Build a wider range of precise topic vocabulary and check common combinations, for example, “industrial waste,” “water contamination,” and “protect endangered species.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response relies mainly on short, simple sentences, with limited evidence of controlled complex structures. Errors in sentence formation and grammar occur throughout, for example, “environmental problems is very danger,” “Factory throw there wast material,” and “Animals drank the pollutant water and suffering into a major diseases.” These include agreement, verb-form, article, and sentence-pattern problems, and they sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. The opening, “We discuss about the main environmental problem,” is also not formed accurately. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and tense. For instance, “Factories discharge waste into rivers, which pollutes the water” would express one of your ideas more clearly.
