Student answer (Band 5.5)

A number of individuals think that the major environmental issue at present is the loss of particular species of plants and animals while others argued that there are more significal environmental issues. I will discuss the both views and give my opinion in the conclusion.

On the one hand, some people believe that loss of particular species of plants and animals make environmental problems because plants and animals are protect our ecology and biodiversity. Plants and animals have own life cycles, if any plants and animals loss their cycle, the whole cycle will distrurb. For that reason, our enviroment and resources will hampers. For example, If snakes will loss from our environment the percentage of rat will increase rapidly, as a result rat will destroy peddy fields. It makes environmental problems.

On the other hand, others argue that there are more important environmental problems such as air pollution, sound pollution , which I believe is more convincing because it makes various types of environmental issues. Air pollution is one of the major environmental issues in modern society. Various types of health problems such as asthema, eye problems people suffer from the air pollution. The another major problem is sound pollution, It is very distrubing issue for such people who have heart problem, they suffer a lot. Specially who live in a modern busy city they suffer various types of health problems. For instance, In the office time, the road is very busy as a result makes traffic jam. That time all the drivers make horn that makes sound polltion.

In conclusion, although the loss of particular species of plants and animals can seriously damage the eco systems, I believe that pollution are more pressing environmental problems because of their widespread effects on humans.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and state a clear preference for pollution in the conclusion, so the response is relevant to the task. The examples also help explain your points: the effect of losing snakes on rat numbers illustrates ecological balance, while traffic horns illustrate noise pollution. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The first view is explained mainly through a general claim about cycles, and the second focuses on health effects without comparing their scale or explaining why pollution is more pressing overall. Your opening says you will give your opinion “in the conclusion,” so your position is not clear until the end. Develop each view with a fuller explanation and make your own position explicit earlier.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” make the contrast easy to follow, and examples are placed alongside the relevant claims. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes repetitive or unclear. In the first body paragraph, the repeated references to “plants and animals” and “cycle” do not build a precise chain of reasoning. In the second, the move from health effects to traffic jams and horns is abrupt. Some linking phrases, such as “For that reason” and “as a result,” are used where the cause-and-effect relationship needs clearer explanation. Use more precise referencing and organise each paragraph around one developed point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant environmental vocabulary, including “biodiversity,” “air pollution,” “health problems,” and “ecosystems,” which helps communicate the topic. There is also some attempt to use more specific terms, such as “life cycles” and “traffic jam.” However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or spellings make the writing less clear, including “significal,” “distrurb,” “peddy,” and “sound polltion.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “make environmental problems” and “the percentage of rat.” Aim to learn accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “disrupt ecological balance,” “rat population,” and “noise pollution” would make your explanations clearer and more appropriate for an academic essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional and cause-and-effect structures, as in “if any plants and animals loss their cycle, the whole cycle will distrurb.” This shows an effort to express relationships between ideas, but complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some points difficult to follow. Examples include “plants and animals are protect our ecology,” “the whole cycle will distrurb,” and “pollution are more pressing,” where verb forms or subject–verb agreement are incorrect. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “The another major problem” and the comma splice in “Air pollution is one of the major environmental issues in modern society. Various types of health problems such as asthema, eye problems people suffer…” Practise accurate basic clauses before adding complexity.
