Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is widely believed that an extinction of specific species of plants and animals is a crucial environmental drawback, whereas others consider that there are numerous significant environmental minus pionts than it. From my perspective, although it is major environmental problem but other problems need more concentration by us.

First of all, individuals who consider the loss of particular species of plants and animals as the major environmental issue may be quite right. The main reason is that siginificant number of individuals love the nature a lot. They always want to explore new species of plants and animals. Furthermore, it is the nature of humans that they feel pleasure by experience of new things and want to go in their depth in order to know more details about them. It is substantial loss of not having so many types of animals and plants. Nevertheless, it is not a big deal at all.

On the other hand, individuals who take other environmental issues more seriously are right enough. There are several environmental issues which should be control such as pollution. Pollution is one of the most significant issue of the contemporary era. There are few major causes of it such as population increase, wide range of industries and factories and insuficient awareness of people. We should control them with the cooperation of governments. Furthermore, we can plant more trees, use public transport and many other activities which will help us to control the polution.

In conclusion, after elaborating both views and from my perspective, other problems are more crucial than it. Moreover, we can control them but not to first one.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You discuss both viewpoints and state a position: you acknowledge species loss as serious, then argue that other problems, especially pollution, deserve greater attention. However, the response only partially develops the task. The case for protecting species is based mainly on people enjoying nature and exploring new species, rather than explaining ecological consequences such as disrupted food chains. The pollution paragraph names causes and possible actions, but does not show why these make pollution more important than species loss. The conclusion repeats your preference without fully resolving the comparison. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of each problem and support your judgement with a specific example. The stated length requirement is met; the nine words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “First of all,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes weak: the point about people enjoying nature does not clearly lead to the claim that species loss is “not a big deal at all.” The repeated use of “Furthermore” and broad references such as “them” and “it” also make some connections unclear. Improve cohesion by linking each supporting detail directly to the paragraph’s main claim, and use precise references—for example, name “pollution” rather than relying on “them.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “extinction,” “species,” “pollution,” and “contemporary era,” so the reader can follow the general subject. However, the range is limited and several choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. Examples include “environmental minus pionts,” “significant number of individuals,” and “control the pollution.” There are also spelling errors such as “siginificant,” “insuficient,” and “polution.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for instance, use “environmental concerns,” “a significant number of people,” and “reduce pollution.” More precise vocabulary would help you explain environmental impacts rather than relying on general phrases such as “other problems.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause beginning “although” and a relative clause in “issues which should be control.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms recur. For example, “although it is major environmental problem but” combines two contrasting structures and is missing an article; “issues which should be control” needs a passive form; and “one of the most significant issue” has a plural-agreement error. The final sentence, “we can control them but not to first one,” is also difficult to interpret grammatically. Practise building accurate contrast and passive constructions, and check articles, agreement, and parallel forms before submitting.
