Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, environmental problems are becoming a serious concern around the world. Some people believe that the extinction of particular type of plants and animals is the biggest problem while other people argue that climate change and pollution is the main environmental issue. In my opinion, all environmental problems are harmfull but climate change and pollution have a greater impact on the plante.
On the one hand, loss of particular species of plants and animals is a major environmental concern. Every organism play importans role in maintaing the nature. For example, bees help to polinate followers and forests provide shelter for many animals. Moreover, deforesteration, illegal hunting and humane activities are responsible for the destraction of wildlife.
On the other hand, many people believe that other environmental issues are more serious. I agree with this view beacuse problems with air pollution, water pollution and climate change can affect million of peoples in all over the world. For instant, air pollution cause health problem like asthma and other respiratoty diseases. Similarly, climate change leads to rising temperature, floods and extreem weather conditions. Therefore, government should take effective measures to control poluttion and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
In conclusion. although loss of plants and animal species are serious issue, i belive that poluution and climate change are more serious because these issues effect both human health and nature.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and state a clear opinion: you recognise species loss as serious, while arguing that pollution and climate change have wider effects. Relevant examples, such as bees pollinating flowers and air pollution causing asthma, support the discussion. However, several points are asserted rather than explained—for instance, the effects of species loss on ecosystems are not developed, and the comparison with climate change remains broad. The conclusion repeats your position but adds little synthesis. The response is also 217 words, which is 33 words below the required minimum; this limits the space available to develop and support your ideas. Add a fuller explanation or example for each view and make the comparison more specific.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” make the contrast easy to follow, while “For example” and “Similarly” introduce supporting details. This coherent structure supports the reader, though some connections are mechanical and the progression within paragraphs is brief. The conclusion begins with “In conclusion.” as a sentence fragment in punctuation terms, and the final paragraph largely repeats the introduction rather than drawing the discussion together. To strengthen cohesion, link each example explicitly to the claim it supports and use a wider range of natural transitions and referencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “extinction,” “illegal hunting,” “air pollution,” “greenhouse gas emissions,” and “respiratory diseases,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific environmental language. However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “harmfull,” “deforesteration,” “destraction,” and “poluttion,” and some word choices or forms are inaccurate, such as “plante” and “humane activities.” These errors reduce precision and can distract the reader. Some phrases are also broad or awkward, such as “problems are becoming a serious concern.” Check spelling carefully and build accurate collocations, for example “human activities” and “the natural environment,” while varying repeated general terms such as “problem” and “issue.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause in “although loss of plants and animal species are serious issue” and a cause-and-effect sentence beginning “Similarly, climate change leads to…”. Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries remain. For example, “Every organism play” needs a singular verb, and “climate change and pollution is” needs a plural verb. “In conclusion.” should introduce a complete sentence rather than stand alone, and “loss … are serious issue” has problems with agreement and article use. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and matching verb, then review articles and plural forms. More accurate complex sentences would improve control.
