Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some would argue that the significant enivronmental issue of recent time is the extinction of some species of plants and animals, while others say that there are some other major environmental problems exists. The loss of specific species resulted in disblance of the planet, I beleive that there are some other crucial problems which are more harmful for environment.

On the one hand, many species has extinct in recent centuries for the wrong steps of human being. The food chain of the forest faces lacking due to this. Every plants and animals have a role in the environment to mantain the ecological balance of the world. The world is now going through the global warming for the hindrence. For example, The Dodo bird was the prime birds which were found in a island; later the birds were prey to the humans and some other animals too. Similarly, many trees are being cut down and hanged them over to the loss. However, I believe that there are other more important environmental problems.

On the other hand, in last two century many industries and factories grew which later realese tons of carbon in the atmosphere. Additionally, many forests are being cut off for the urbanizaton. As a result, ice is melting contiously in the Antarctica and increases the sea level. Scientist expecting that the low level land will be under water in upcoming centuries. For instances, In UK, the maximum temparature in summer in 2025 is the higesht recorder of all time and the period of winter get decreased in recent year in all over the world.

In conclude, although the loss of many species is causing several damage to the world but it is not the main reason behind the major problem of environment. Many other issues combined together, which is affecting the planet mostly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear opinion: species loss is harmful, but you consider other environmental problems more serious. The discussion of extinction refers to ecological balance and the food chain, while the second view covers emissions, deforestation, melting ice and rising sea levels. These are relevant points, and the examples of the dodo and recent UK temperatures help illustrate them. However, some explanations are unclear or insufficiently developed. For instance, the link between the dodo’s extinction and global warming is not explained, and the claim about UK temperatures would be stronger with a clearer, reliable example. Develop the causes and consequences of each issue more precisely, and explain more directly why the problems you prioritise are more harmful overall.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The signposts “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” make the discussion easy to follow, and the conclusion returns to your position. Overall progression is clear, but connections between some ideas are abrupt or unclear. For example, the sentence about the dodo is followed by a point about trees being cut down without explaining how these examples relate, and “The world is now going through the global warming for the hindrence” does not clearly connect extinction to climate change. Use linking phrases to show cause, contrast, or consequence, and make references such as “this” or “these issues” explicit. This would make cohesion less mechanical and improve the flow within paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt topic-specific vocabulary, including “extinction,” “food chain,” “ecological balance,” “carbon,” “urbanization,” and “sea level.” This gives you enough language to discuss the main environmental themes, but inaccurate spelling, word forms, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make meaning difficult to interpret. Examples include “disblance,” “realese tons of carbon,” “hanged them over to the loss,” and “the higest recorder.” Some phrases, such as “wrong steps of human being,” are also too vague for the point you want to make. Aim for accurate, natural combinations of words and check spelling carefully. More precise terms for causes and effects would help you express your ideas clearly without relying on broad phrases such as “other major environmental problems.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses such as “although the loss of many species…” and a result structure beginning “As a result.” Most of the main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “there are some other major environmental problems exists” combines incompatible verb forms, and “many species has extinct” has errors in agreement and verb construction. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and sentence structure, as in “Every plants and animals have a role” and “Scientist expecting that…” Work on subject–verb agreement, past and present verb forms, and complete sentence patterns. More accurate control of these basics would let your complex sentences communicate your reasoning more reliably.
