Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
A substantial proportion of people agrue that the main environmental problem is the loss of particular species of plants and animals, while others believe that there are other necessary environmental problems. From my perspective, I believe that both have balanced proportion.
On the one hand, the vital environmental issue is the loss of species. The main cause of this trend is because less land for plants and animals. Nowadays, many places are now reconstructed into buildings or industrials. Due to this, animals have no place to live and the plants and trees are also cutted. Another reason is to consider that the plants and animals are not maintained properly. Many species are now dying due to less food and place. Governments should have to take care of the species who are extincting. For example, in India, species of tiger were dying. Because of this, governments have stepped in to protect the species and to maintain them. As a result, the population of the tiger increases in india.
On the other hand, there are other environmental problems such as pollution. Most of the countries have a problem of pollution. There are many industrails and transportations that produces pollution. For example, many areas in the city have both buildings and industries at same place. This results in health-related issues and environmental problems. This issues not only affect plants and animals but also affect to citizens health and daily life. Moreover, a water pollution is also a vital problem. This may impact on humans because drinking pure water is essential for living. If people do not drink pure water they may become sick. This is also same for plants and animals because all living beings need pure water.
In conclusion, I believe that both sides have equal proportion as both species of plants and animals have extincted, while there are also major environmental problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and give a position, explaining that species loss matters while pollution and water pollution are also serious. The examples of habitat being replaced by buildings and the protection of tigers in India are relevant, and the pollution paragraph explains effects on people as well as wildlife. However, the position that the problems have “balanced proportion” is not clearly explained or defended, and the conclusion mainly repeats it. Some ideas are less fully developed than others: for instance, the discussion of water pollution identifies its effects but gives little detail about its causes or scale. Clarify how you compare the importance of the problems and support that judgement with a more specific explanation or example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help signal the discussion, while examples generally follow the points they illustrate. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. In “The main cause of this trend is because less land,” the relationship between the cause and the claim is not expressed smoothly, and “This issues” does not clearly refer to a single preceding idea. The conclusion also repeats the introduction rather than drawing the two sides together. To improve progression, make each paragraph develop one central point in a clear sequence and use precise references when connecting sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic vocabulary to discuss the environment, including “species,” “industrial,” “pollution,” and “health-related issues.” Some choices show an attempt to be precise, such as “maintained properly” and “protect the species.” However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less natural: “agrue,” “industrials,” “cutted,” and “extincting” are examples. Phrases such as “balanced proportion” and “other necessary environmental problems” do not express the intended comparison idiomatically. Build a more reliable range of environmental collocations, and check spelling and word forms. This will make your ideas clearer without requiring more complicated vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including cause-and-effect clauses such as “If people do not drink pure water they may become sick” and a contrast introduced by “while.” Meaning is generally understandable, but grammatical control is uneven. Examples include the incomplete construction “The main cause of this trend is because less land,” the agreement error in “industries and transportations that produces,” and “This issues not only affect.” Articles and prepositions also need attention, as in “at same place” and “impact on humans.” Practise forming complete cause-and-effect sentences, checking subject–verb agreement, and using articles consistently. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentence attempts easier to follow.
