The diagram below shows how electricity is generated in a hydroelectric power station.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The diagram illustrates the process of electricity generated in a hydroelectric power station. Overall, there are several steps beginning with the intake of water from high level reservoir dams and eventually electricity is generated.
To begin with, the river flows from the highest levels of reservoir in dam, where the intake of flow of water is open at daytime, while it been closed during night hours. Moreover, the flow of water is pass to the power station. In this Reversible turbine is connected to the upcoming flow of water through high-level reservoir and then which having the two connections one is connected to a generator and on other is connected to the way where the extra water passes to lower-level reservoir. Moreover, in daytime reversible turbines operates the generator to produce electricity where the power lines are connected and followed by national grid. However, during night hours this same reversible turbine pumps the water back into high-level reservoir.
