The diagram below shows how electricity is generated in a hydroelectric power station.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The diagram demonstrates the production of electricity in a hydroelectric power station.
The process starts with water coming from the river to the high-level reservoir. Close to high-level reservoir dam is situated. Here, the dam has a water intake which is open during the day and closed at night. When the dam intake is open during the daytime, the water flows forward to generate electricity, reaching the reversible turbines. This reversible turbines perform two function, one when water reaches the reversible turbines it operate generator at the power station. Fromwhere the electricity is supplied to the various power lines and then to the national grid. Second, it pump the water from the low-level reservoir back to the high-level reservoir during the night so that it can be reused for the electricity production once again.
