Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While the writer attempts to summarize the process shown in the diagram by mentioning key features such as the river, dam, high-level reservoir, intake, and reversible turbines, the coverage is limited and disjointed. Furthermore, the inclusion of personal commentary at the end about natural disasters and climate change is irrelevant to an objective academic process report and detracts from the task requirements. Ideas are under-developed, and the overall progression of the hydroelectric cycle is obscured by fragmented referencing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Information and ideas are not arranged cohesively, resulting in a text that lacks a clear overall progression. The response is written as a single, dense block of text without proper paragraphing or logical transitions. Cohesive devices are largely absent or inadequate; phrases are strung together with repetitive conjunctions like 'and' rather than being structured into clear sentences that guide the reader through the stages of the diagram. Consequently, referencing between the day and night cycles is difficult to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies heavily on lifting terms directly from the diagram prompt, such as 'Hydroelectric station', 'River Dam High Level reservoir', and 'reversible turbines'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and form, such as 'explainer' instead of 'writer', 'tittle' instead of 'title', 'storage' instead of 'stores', 'reseroir', and 'dessastor'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling errors sometimes cause difficulty for the reader, restricting the score to this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of structures, relying on simple, run-on sentences connected by coordinating conjunctions. Attempts at complex sentences are faulty, and there is a complete lack of proper punctuation or sentence boundaries, as seen in the extended string of clauses. Frequent grammatical errors occur throughout, including missing articles, incorrect verb forms ('is a explainer', 'have to made'), and a lack of subject-verb agreement. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader in parsing the meaning of the sentences.
