Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the topic and mention several relevant components, including the high-level reservoir, intake, turbines, generator and national grid. However, the account is incomplete and some process details are unclear: the overview says the process ends at the low-level reservoir, but does not explain that water is pumped back to the high-level reservoir at night. The day/night operation is mentioned, yet the stages are not reported accurately or fully enough to summarise the diagram. The response is also 92 words, below the required 150; 8 words copied from the prompt were excluded from this count. To improve, give a clear overview of the two operating modes and describe the water’s route through each.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening overview followed by process details and linking expressions such as “Initially” and “In addition”. However, the sequence is difficult to follow because stages are joined in unclear or incomplete sentences, and the final phrase, “moreover, The canal d”, is unfinished. The overview also conflicts with the later description by saying the process ends at the low-level reservoir without connecting this to the night-time pumping cycle. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the stages, and order the steps clearly from reservoir to turbines and back. Make each linking word show a genuine relationship between complete ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “high level reservoir”, “intake”, “generator” and “power line”, so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several word choices or forms make the process hard to understand: “the process start from river”, “the process is move” and “the hydroelectric power station was genertor” do not express the intended actions clearly. There are also spelling errors such as “reservior” and “genertor”, and the unfinished “canal d” leaves an idea incomplete. Build a more precise process vocabulary and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
You attempt to use both simple statements and longer sentences, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes distort the meaning. For example, “The process start from river” has an incorrect verb form and missing article, while “the process is move” uses an incorrect verb construction. In “the hydroelectric power station was genertor in power station”, the sentence structure does not clearly identify the generator’s role. Capitalisation is also inconsistent, as in “Initially, The Process”. Practise accurate present-simple descriptions of processes, such as “Water flows” and “the turbines drive the generator”, and use complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs.
