Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people believe that music is a powerful way to bring people's of different cultures and different ages together at one place. I strongly agree with this aspect because music does not need any specific language. It only represents by its rhythm and emotions.

Firstly, music connects people from all over the world with different kind of cultures. They can come together on different concert. The language of the songs does not matter. People from different countries came to attend the concerts of their favourite singers. They enjoy with the rhythm of the songs instead of the lyrics. For instance, if a Pakistani singer go to other countries for concert, the people of every culture enjoy alot with their friends and family.

Secondly, older people like old and traditional songs, whereas young generation intend to listen pop music. At weddings or parties people of all ages come together and enjoy with traditional songs. They dance on weddings on traditional songs . In this way, the people of different ages enjoy together. The young adults also like to listen old songs. They can share these songs with their elders. It can reduce generation gap.

Everybody have their own choice in songs or music. It also depends on person's mode. When some one can feel bored or sad they can listen songs and these songs give them feeling of relax and comfort.

In conclusion, music is a good and powerful thing. It reduce generation gap. It also bring together people of different cultures. It can be helpful to relax their mind.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that music can connect people across cultures and generations. Both parts of the question are addressed, with relevant examples such as international audiences enjoying a Pakistani singer’s concert and people of different ages sharing traditional songs at weddings. The point that music can reduce the generation gap also supports your view. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the paragraph about music helping people feel relaxed is not clearly linked to bringing different groups together. Develop the examples further by explaining how shared musical experiences create interaction or understanding between people.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs about cultural and age differences, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” make the main stages easy to follow. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the final body paragraph shifts to music’s personal benefits without connecting that point clearly to the essay’s central argument. Some references are also unclear, as in “these songs give them feeling of relax and comfort,” where the relationship between the songs and the people is not expressed smoothly. Use clearer links between each example and your position, and make paragraph transitions reflect the argument rather than simply listing points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “traditional songs,” “generation gap,” “rhythm,” and “lyrics.” These choices help keep the response on topic. However, the range is limited and several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, such as “enjoy with the rhythm,” “different kind of cultures,” and “feeling of relax and comfort.” Repetition of “people,” “songs,” and “music” also limits flexibility. Aim to use more precise collocations and vary how you refer to listeners and shared musical experiences. For example, describe audiences as “enjoying the rhythm” and explain that music can “foster connections” between generations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including the contrast in “older people like old and traditional songs, whereas young generation intend to listen pop music.” The main meaning is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction occur across the response. Examples include “Everybody have,” “a Pakistani singer go,” and “It reduce generation gap”; these require singular verb forms and, in the last example, an article. There are also problems with plural and article use in “different concert” and “young generation.” Work on checking subject–verb agreement and noun phrases, while practising accurate complex sentences with “whereas,” “because,” and “when.”
