Student answer (Band 7.0)

Some people believe that music is effective way to bring people together from various cultures and age groups. I strongly agree with this opinion because music is a universal language that helps people connect with one another regardless of their background.

One of the main reasons music brings people together that it can be enjoyed by everyone, even if they do not speak languages. International music festivals, concerts and cultural event attract audiences from different countries, allowing them to share similar interests and experiences. For example, many people around the world enjoys mostly old Bollywood songs rather than if they do not understand all lyrics. This creates a sense of unity.

Music also helps to reduce gap between different generations. Older people often enjoy listening to traditional or classical music , while younger people prefer modern music such hip-pop or dance style. However, family celebrations, wedding and festivals usually includes varieties of music according to their functions. Dancing are the mostly strength of all ages group of people and creates happy memories.

Some people argue that musical preferences differ from persons choice and that not everyone liked to enjoy the same type of music. While it is true, every cultures has its own traditional music and people can still enjoy different styles. Therefore, music remains an important tool for promoting understanding and friendship.

In conclusion, I completely agree that music is as excellent way together people from different cultures and generations. It helps people to appreciate cultural diversity and also feel happy and relaxation from the daily routine of workload.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas regarding music as a universal language and a bridge between generations are relevant and supported with examples, such as international festivals and family celebrations. However, some points are slightly under-developed; for instance, the example of Bollywood songs is a bit vague, and the explanation of how music reduces the generation gap could be more detailed. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'One of the main reasons', 'However', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing (e.g., 'Dancing are the mostly strength'). Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, contributing to the overall coherence of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'cultural diversity' and 'universal language'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'effective way' (missing 'an'), 'mostly strength', and 'every cultures'. These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a need for more precise control over collocations and pluralization to reach a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is consistently clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many people... enjoys', 'every cultures has', 'not everyone liked') and article usage. Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some minor slips. The range of structures is sufficient to convey the argument, but the frequency of errors prevents the writing from being considered highly accurate. Improving control over basic grammatical rules would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
