Student answer (Band 7.5)
Numerous people claim that music is a source of unifying individuals from different backgrounds, cultures and ages. Music has had a profound effect on societies since the beginning of its invention, and I strongly agree with the stated viewpoint due the reasons stated below.
At the outset, musicians and artists from many nations hold music festivals and gatherings to showcase their talent. Often times, the aim of such gatherings is also to promote the heritage of the region; admirers from all across the globe visit and value being a part of such a raw experience. A well-known example of one such occurence was when the American singer, Jeff Buckley, attended a qawali gathering (a South-Asian form of music) and got so inspired that he not only mentioned the experience in his journal, but also performed a qawali in a concert himself. Not only does it promote tourism, but is also a source of establishing cooperative connections with people from fairly different backgrounds.
Moblile apps such as Spotify and Apple Music provide a platform for singers worldwide to publish their songs for global audiences. For instance, a teenager can find himself deeply connected to an Urdu ghazal which were mostly sung between the 1980 and 1990. The calming and soothing rythms, especially used in these ghazals, makes people of all ages transcend into a state of bliss; consequently, it gives birth to the desire to learn the exact meaning of the song to fully grasp the complexity of emotion the composer is trying to convey. Therefore, many teenagers today tend to engage in conversations about music with ederly people such as their grandparents.
To sum it up, music is undoubtedly an amazing source of connection between people, and surpasses all limitations of contrasts in ages, traditions and backgrounds.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have clearly addressed the prompt and maintained a consistent position throughout the essay. Your ideas are relevant and supported by specific examples, such as the reference to Jeff Buckley and the role of digital platforms like Spotify. The argument is well-developed, particularly in how you link music to intergenerational communication. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting examples are fully integrated into the argument; for instance, the link between the teenager listening to ghazals and the subsequent conversation with grandparents is a strong point that could be expanded slightly further to demonstrate a deeper analysis of the social impact of music.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices effectively, such as 'At the outset,' 'For instance,' and 'consequently,' which help guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the relationship between the sentences is generally clear. To improve, ensure that the transition between the two body paragraphs feels slightly more seamless, perhaps by using a linking phrase that acknowledges the shift from physical gatherings to digital platforms.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'profound effect,' 'transcend into a state of bliss,' and 'grasp the complexity of emotion' show a good command of language. There are a few minor errors, such as 'Moblile' (spelling) and 'occurence' (spelling), and 'source of unifying' is slightly awkward; 'means of unifying' or 'way of bringing together' would be more natural. However, these errors do not impede communication, and you successfully use some less common lexical items to convey your meaning effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. Most of your sentences are clear and error-free. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'due the reasons' (should be 'due to the reasons') and 'ghazal which were' (should be 'ghazal which was'). Additionally, 'rythms' is misspelled. Despite these occasional inaccuracies, your control over complex structures is generally good, and the meaning is always clear. Focusing on proofreading for small subject-verb agreement errors and spelling will help you achieve a higher score.
