Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position, but the development of ideas is limited. While you mention that music is a 'universal language' and helps bridge the generation gap, the supporting examples are vague and lack depth. For instance, the reference to primary school art classes does not clearly explain how music specifically brings different ages together. Furthermore, the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which negatively impacts the overall development of your arguments. To improve, ensure you provide more detailed, concrete examples and expand on your reasoning to fully explore the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'It is well known that'). Some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, and the logical progression of ideas is occasionally hindered by sentences that do not clearly link to the main argument. For example, the transition from music helping people stay calm to the idea of learning new things is not well-connected. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each sentence flows naturally from the previous one will enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive phrases such as 'enjoy together' and 'very beneficial'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'examined under various spotlights' and 'enhances our different levels', which sound unnatural. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to culture, social cohesion, and the arts. Focus on using words that precisely convey your meaning rather than relying on generic descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'I strongly advocate it is because' (incorrect structure), 'in primary school have an art class' (missing subject), and 'music fosters creativity it enhances our different levels' (run-on sentence). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters at the start of sentences. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the clarity of your writing. Focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring each sentence has a clear subject and verb.
