Student answer (Band 7.0)

In the contemporary world, a set of individuals beleive that music can unite people from different background and age brackets. I do agree with the statement upto certain extent. However, I don't fully agree with the point. This essay would examine and elucidate both sides of the coin.

To commence with, putting shoes of individuals who agree with the statement is because it is very accessible. Anyone knowing a language can plausibly listen to music. To illustrate, anyone living in any part of the world can listen to music through apps like spotify and apple music. Two kids, with one sitting in America and other in Egypt can enjoy taylor swift if they understand english well. Moving further songs can act as a fuel in a movement. Music can unite different cultures effortlessly. To exemplify, In 2015 Kendrick lamar released a song named 'Alright'. This song became the face of the movement, in which black community was fighting for their rights. With the release of this track even white community joined shoulders with the black. This way hip-hop music united two different societies.

On the other hand, the first and foremost reason that I partially agree with the statement is because it defame two different communities. Sometimes, artists use their talent to insult the sentiments of other, which can have very castrophic consequences. For instance, in 1990's two singers named tupac and Notourious B.I.G. had a rap beef, since both resided at different of united states and attacked each others regions. It lightened the spark and america saw a series of gang wars which concluded as a nightmare for common men. Apart from this, sometimes music can promote nudity towards feminist. Few singers yell on their mic, speaking rubbish about girls. This does help the singer commercially yet, it misleads the views about men in the minds of female community.

To conclude, music can make humans of different age groups and culture all together by a large extent. However, it can form or deepen cracks between two societies. In the end, it becomes the responsibility of the artist to use their mic with a meaningful approach.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The essay addresses the prompt well, providing a balanced view on how music can both unite and divide. The position is clear throughout. The arguments are relevant, such as the mention of Kendrick Lamar's 'Alright' as a unifying force and the historical reference to the rivalry between Tupac and Notorious B.I.G. to illustrate division. However, the development of the second body paragraph is slightly less focused; the transition to 'nudity towards feminist' feels somewhat tangential and less effectively linked to the core argument of cultural or age-related division. Overall, the ideas are well-supported, though some points could be refined for greater clarity and logical flow.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two sides of the argument. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'To commence with', 'Moving further', and 'On the other hand', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'putting shoes of individuals who agree'. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the phrase 'misleads the views about men in the minds of female community', which lacks precise logical connection to the preceding sentence. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas remains clear throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. There are some good attempts at topic-specific language like 'contemporary world', 'castrophic consequences', and 'meaningful approach'. However, there are several instances of inaccurate word choice and collocation, such as 'defame two different communities' (likely meaning 'create conflict'), 'lightened the spark' (should be 'ignited the spark'), and 'nudity towards feminist'. Spelling errors like 'beleive' and 'Notourious' also occur. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over vocabulary and better attention to spelling and standard collocations to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout, including article usage ('the black community', 'the white community'), subject-verb agreement, and awkward phrasing such as 'make humans... all together'. Punctuation is generally functional, though there are minor errors with apostrophes and commas. While the student attempts complex sentences, they are not always error-free. The errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but rarely impede the reader's understanding of the main points. To improve, the student should focus on sentence structure variety and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy.
