Student answer (Band 5.0)
Music is the most common thing and the most important thing in our life, many people cannot live without listening to music and many cultures find it fun and a lovely way to escape from issues from it.
From my perspective, i think music can effect people's lives in a great or awful way, sometimes when i see my sister is sad i look at her and notice that she starts to cry or get mad and when i realized that she starts to listen to sad songs that keep me have a negative energy.
meanwhile, when i feel happy i listen to happy songs from deferent countries.
furthermore, it have an advantage thing to hear it in a different languages, it let you know a new language skill and let you communicate with people from different places.
however, i believe that music is a perfect way to have a common thing to share it with the people you love, most of my friend love my taste in music and they are from different countries, you can share what you love on social media. one bad thing is some people can love the rhythm of a song but they dont know the meaning behind it and it can be have a bad meaning while they didnt know that.
in conclusion, music is a fun way to know people from it and have a common thing to share when you love someone and you want them to know that, other than that we must share something we know the mean behind it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the role of music in bringing people together. However, the development of ideas is limited. The personal anecdote about the sister is somewhat tangential and does not directly support the argument regarding cultural or age-related unity. The essay lacks a clear, consistent position, and the arguments presented—such as learning languages or sharing music on social media—are under-developed. To improve, you should focus on providing more relevant examples that directly relate to the prompt's theme of 'culture' and 'age' rather than personal anecdotes about family members.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps the overall structure. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical (e.g., 'meanwhile', 'furthermore', 'however'). There is a lack of logical flow between sentences, making it difficult for the reader to follow your line of reasoning. For instance, the transition from the sister's mood to the benefits of listening to music in different languages is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. You rely on simple words like 'thing', 'good', and 'fun' throughout the text. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'have an advantage thing to hear it' and 'know the mean behind it'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary and collocations, such as 'cultural exchange', 'universal language', or 'emotional resonance', rather than repeating generic terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the essay, including subject-verb agreement ('it have an advantage'), sentence fragments, and incorrect verb forms ('keep me have a negative energy'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing capital letters for the pronoun 'I'. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple or poorly connected compound sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and using a wider variety of complex structures with greater accuracy.
