Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that music helps to create inter-cultural and inter-generational interactions. I strongly agree to this opinion, as music is not only a form of entertainment but also a way of communication.

Music bring people of various ages together by interacting to their emotions and personal feelings. It also removes cultural gap and helps to connect with people from other cultures. For instance, Feefa world cup song was popular in many regions regardless of language, culture and ages. People from different countries and regions enjoyed the song which helped them feel connected and creates a sense of unity.

Music is a sensational way of expressing feelings and emotions. It is often observed that people more sentimental while listening to sad songs, while, romantic songs make us feel romantic and happy.

Overall, music is a beautiful way to connect with people of different ages and culture.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 147 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you clearly state your position and provide a relevant example (the FIFA World Cup song), the arguments remain underdeveloped. To achieve a higher band, you must expand on your points with more detailed explanations and additional examples. The current structure is too brief to fully explore the complexities of how music bridges cultural and generational divides, leading to a superficial treatment of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'For instance' and 'Overall' to link your thoughts. However, because the essay is so short, the overall flow feels abrupt. To improve, you should use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your sentences are connected more fluidly. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the lack of depth makes the logical progression feel somewhat mechanical rather than sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some appropriate terms like 'inter-cultural' and 'sensational', but there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'interacting to their emotions' (should be 'appealing to') and 'removes cultural gap' (should be 'bridges the cultural gap'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary to express your ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Music bring people' (subject-verb agreement error: should be 'brings') and 'people more sentimental' (missing verb: should be 'people feel more sentimental'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the clarity of your writing. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate better control over subject-verb agreement and sentence construction, ensuring that your complex sentences are error-free.
