Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as the role of concerts and festivals in fostering social cohesion. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the mention of animals 'vibing' with music is irrelevant and detracts from the academic tone. While the essay covers the requirements, the arguments could be more deeply extended with more specific, analytical examples rather than general observations. The conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the main points discussed in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly,' 'Furthermore,' and 'To conclude,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'the paragraph will anticipate the reason...'). The use of pronouns and linking words is sometimes repetitive, and the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother to achieve a higher level of cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'good omen' to describe music's social role, and 'vibe with' which is too informal for an academic essay. Additionally, there are minor errors in word formation, such as 'relieved stress' instead of 'relieving stress'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but it does not demonstrate a flexible or sophisticated control of language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'music have a numerous benefits', 'music play important role') and article usage (e.g., 'in many streets or hotel'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in sentence construction that make some parts of the text feel disjointed. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band.
