Student answer (Band 6.0)

There are those who believe that music is a good way to bring people of different cultures and ages together. I strongly agree with this statement since it creates strong bond and socialization in a community.

Music is a unique entertainment which brings people closer together even though there are differences in nationality, age, gender and culture. It creates memorable bond with others and improves socialization skills. Nowadays, attending various concert is a trend to many individuals, and the most common would be the Korean Pop industry. A lot of people watch their shows and events even though the location is far from their home or country. As a result, some of them made friends and found their partners even if there are differences they still understand each other. It shows how music brings people together and it is not only considered as a leisure time bust most individual use it as their hobby and talent. In addition, a good example of music bringing people together would be the singers who represent their country when they perform internationally. It creates unity in a community to show their support for every talented artists, and that they remember where there roots are even if they succeed with their talent they still show their love for their country and their people. It can also help build the confidence of others to join if they know that they will get the support from their people.

To conclude, music is a great entertainment where closure is created for every individual no matter what the differences are.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The ideas regarding K-pop and international performance are relevant and support the argument. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, and the explanation of how music bridges age gaps is notably absent, focusing almost exclusively on cultural connections. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that all parts of the prompt—both 'cultures' and 'ages'—are explored with equal depth. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the main points presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In addition' and 'As a result', to link sentences. However, the use of cohesive devices is occasionally mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition into the second paragraph. Furthermore, some referencing is unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between K-pop fans and the broader argument about 'ages' is not explicitly bridged. Improving the variety and sophistication of your linking words would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'socialization', 'internationally', and 'represent'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'memorable bond' (a strong bond), 'concert' (concerts), and 'closure is created' (which is misused here; you likely meant 'closeness'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on collocations and ensuring words are used in their correct context will help improve your score in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('most individual use it', 'talented artists... they remember where there roots are') and punctuation errors. Some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'It shows how music brings people together and it is not only considered as a leisure time bust most individual use it as their hobby and talent.' These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures is recommended.
