Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is said that music can bring people from different cultures and ages together. I completely agree with this statement as music is known to have no language barriers.
Music is with us since the ancients ages. It has many forms be it instrumental, classical, jazz, hip hop, opera to list a few. Music is believed to be something that is generally felt by the people for example instrumental music uses no words, and yet we can see people crying in theatres along with the musicians. Similarly music does not concentrate on a single generation or an age, it is for everyone out there willing to listen. Songs tell stories as to what happened in the past, helping us connect with our ancestors and understand their lives.
After the introduction of internet and social media you can listen to anything from any part of the world. People enjoy music from other countries, from where even the native language is different. For example, the recent trends such as the Korean wave leading to Korean pop music being popular in all parts of the world. Even though Korean is a language not spoken in any other par of the world. Same is the case with Turkish, German, Japanese and many other regional musics.
The popularity of such different music, not only make people from different parts of the world familiar worldwide but also helps them understand the cultures and traditions from all over the world.
Henceforth, music not only helps us understand our ancestors life stories, helping us keep in harmony with them, but also helps peple from different parts of the world understand each others cultures and lives. in short music is a language of heart.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have clearly addressed the prompt and maintained a consistent position throughout the essay. You successfully argued that music acts as a bridge across cultures and generations. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the 'Korean wave' and the emotional impact of instrumental music. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more deeply developed; for instance, you could explain more specifically how music bridges the generation gap beyond just stating it is for everyone. Overall, you have fulfilled all requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Similarly', 'For example', and 'Henceforth', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between paragraphs could be smoother, and some cohesive devices feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'such different music') is always precise to avoid ambiguity.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'language barriers', 'instrumental', and 'traditions'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'ancients ages' (should be 'ancient times') and 'par of the world' (typo). While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your repertoire of academic vocabulary would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'Music is with us since the ancients ages' (should be 'has been with us since ancient times') and 'peple' (spelling error). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some missing commas and minor errors in sentence construction. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors prevents a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage.
