Student answer (Band 5.5)

Music introduces people to different cultures and ages around the world. I strongly agree with this statement as it allows people to find out them self in a different way.

One major reason i would like to say is culture. People can learn about cultural diversity by listening music. For example, someone who is from Asian culture interested to listen an english song and the catchy melody and meaningful rhythm may make them curious to know about british culture, as a result they may go around the country, which help them to explore the history and culture. Sometimes, some people try to express their feelings with music and they learn languages to listen the song.

Another strong point is a lot of people with variety of ages can close together. For instance, who are young or adult they may love some romantic music while older people may prefer some old music which is meaningful and remember them their past activities and memory. Youngster tend to be more interested to go to the concert to watch the live show of their favourite singer, like if someone a fan of Eid Sheeran he will probably join the show and if he is from another country, he will leave the country to attend the show, as a result he can be introduced to different culture age ages people because of music.

To sum up, music is one of the best way to experience cultural diversity and it gives the opportunity to combined every ages of people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the argument about music helping people learn languages is mentioned but not fully explored. The examples provided, such as the reference to Ed Sheeran, are relevant but could be more effectively linked to the core argument about bridging cultural and generational gaps. The conclusion is brief and repeats the introduction rather than synthesizing the main points. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more detailed explanations and deeper analysis of how music specifically facilitates these connections.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For example', 'Another strong point', and 'To sum up', which help the flow. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'One major reason i would like to say is culture'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between listening to music and traveling to another country is a bit disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'cultural diversity' and 'catchy melody'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'close together' instead of 'brought together', and 'leave the country' instead of 'travel abroad'. Some phrasing is repetitive, and the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more precise academic terminology to express your ideas.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. These include missing articles ('listening music' instead of 'listening to music'), incorrect verb forms ('someone who is from Asian culture interested to listen' instead of 'is interested in listening'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('Youngster tend' instead of 'Youngsters tend'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization of 'i'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points.
