Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some people are saying that music is a good way of bringing people of different cultures and ages together and this is a very good thing because music has no language but there are some people who disagree but I think the connection between people constantly hold a progressive lead over staying alone or not talking to anyone.
The people from different cultures who listen to the same music have a steady growth in their friendship with no decline whatsoever because they can dance together and they do not need to speak the same language to understand the beat of the song and also I have my own experience when I organized a Berghain India techno party in Ahmedabad and a jungle theme party for a whopping 250 people and everyone from different backgrounds was enjoying the electronic music which helps in the progressive growth of their happiness and making new friends from other cities or countries who came to the event and so.
The age groups of old and young people also had a steady growth with no decline in enjoying music together starting from families listening to songs in the house and increase in growth to going to live concerts and when the DJ plays a good song it showed a progressive flow of energy and it is very good for the mind because they create a strong bond between them and the young people can teach the old people about new music and the old people can share traditional music with the young generation without any decline whatsoever.
Each culture and age group showed a increasing growth in the usage of music together and playing instruments like guitar or piano, this shows that people started switching to techno music and parties than sitting at home which helps in reducing stress, controlling sadness, increasing a healthy lifestyle, avoiding traffic jams and so.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear agreement with the idea that music brings people together. However, the development of ideas is repetitive and lacks depth. While you provide a personal example regarding a techno party, the explanation remains somewhat superficial. The arguments regarding age groups are also quite generic and rely on repetitive phrasing like 'steady growth with no decline,' which does not effectively support the argument. To reach a higher band, you should focus on providing more nuanced analysis of how music bridges cultural and generational gaps, rather than repeating the same points using similar vocabulary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of varied cohesive devices. Many sentences are linked in a mechanical way, often using 'and' or 'also' to connect clauses. The progression of ideas is somewhat circular, as the same points are restated multiple times within the same paragraph. To improve, you should use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' 'in contrast') and ensure that each sentence contributes new information to the overall argument rather than restating previous points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases such as 'steady growth with no decline' and 'progressive growth' are used excessively throughout the text, which limits your ability to demonstrate a range of vocabulary. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or precise collocations. To improve, you should aim to use more varied vocabulary related to social interaction, cultural exchange, and the emotional impact of music. Avoid using the same phrases repeatedly, as this makes the writing feel monotonous and restricts your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on long, run-on sentences that lack proper punctuation. Many sentences are grammatically awkward, such as 'the connection between people constantly hold a progressive lead over staying alone.' There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the control over basic grammar is inconsistent. Errors in subject-verb agreement and word order are frequent. To improve, focus on writing shorter, clearer sentences and practice using a variety of complex structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, while ensuring that your punctuation is accurate to help the reader follow your points.
